If you've just bought it then the first step would be to give it a thorough checking over.
Do the basics first then you can start looking at replacement air boxes, PC3's etc.... You may want to check out the 'How To' section and look at some of the electrical mods, reliability is a key concern with these bikes, complete these mods and the chances are you'll have pretty good reliability. |

One of the best way is to change the gearing to 16/44 if not already done but yeah as Al says above :)

On the performance front , a must for racing would be
1. Change Airbox to a Renegade style
2. Change T.B's for 54mm or even better 57mm
3. Get Dr Rossi (Alain) to do you a custom eprom
4. Exhaust system
5. 520 pitch chain & sprockets
6. Performance Friction brake pads
7. Rearsets
It would pay to check if you have the twin plug heads or the single plug heads. As the twin plug heads produce the least amount of power and do not respond as well to certain mods.

News to me but i've always run twin plug heads, thought single plug heads were only in 04 on bikes? And these engines were slightly stronger?
15/46 Gearing is the best for me!

The single plug heads were around as early as 2002 (I have found at least 3 bikes of that year).
The twin plug heads do not flow as well as the single plug heads owing to the inlet/exhaust tracts being comprimised by the 2nd spark plug.
But all in all it only adds up to approx 6-8 bhp difference, so its not a real biggie unless of course yo were hunting high revs for that extra horsepower.
