Topic: Gen 2 Tuono Servicing/Valve Clearance HelpPosted: 02 Feb 2017 at 10:01 |

Hi guys
I'm about to buy a 2006 Gen 2 Tuono with 11000 miles and 'full' service history. It has been serviced every year with stamps in the book but doesn't appear to have had the valve clearances checked. I know it hasn't got to 12000 miles yet, but I thought they should be checked every 2 years? It was last serviced May 2016, at 10500 miles. It is absolute top whack in terms of price, but is in almost showroom condition with all the documents, Akra titanium SPs etc and is running sweet. Should I budget to get them checked straight away? Would it bother you if they hadn't been done so far? Cheers, Wilko |

It wouldn't bother me that they haven't been checked to your knowledge but I would budget for it for peace of mind. Try and use it as a haggling point?

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

The time element with servicing is generally there in case an owner does lots of short trips, so will have done lots of cold starts etc which accelerate wear but add little in the way of total miles. For a sports bike the reality is usually that it just doesn't get used as much so the time element is less important provided it has generally had good servicing (oil changes etc) Were it me, yes I would want the valves checked soon after taking ownership but I wouldn't let the 2 year thing worry you at all. |
