    Posted: 22 Sep 2024 at 01:57
Gents, during a ride today me gear position in the dash suddenly displayed a dash like a - instead of the gear I was in, and quickshifter no longer worked. I could however continue the journey by pulling clutch in/out to change gears up and down.

Also while gear indicator didn't indicate a N when bike was in fact in NEUTRAL, I noticed dropping down the kickstand while bike was in neutral and running at idle (gear position indicator still display as a - ) would shut off the bike. It seem to me the bike thinks it's in a gear of some sort so when dropping the kickstand while bike standing stationary shuts off the engine.

Any thoughts on what is causing this issue and how to go about fixing the issue?

2017 RSV4RR

Cheers mates. Beer

The quick shifter will be related to the gear indicator fault, I suspect - you may be lucky in that the indicator sensor just needs a good clean.
Here’s a link to a video where a similar problem was identified:
Good luck.

Also changing the sensor:
Years of the big K then an Ape - one with twin Akras, AP air box mod, twin NRVs, 42t rear sprocket, great big 12V cables, 200A solenoid, 40A MOSFET r/r + headlight switch + stator cooling + PCIII map.

Thanks so much mate! The How-To youtube video is excellent resource since it is showing the actual bike! I came across some chatter about installing the new gear position sensor "correctly" and that if it was not done correct it could lead to leaks, any thoughts on what to look for and the do's and don'ts for installing the new replacement sensor?

If anyone has the service manual, any clue what page(s) of service manual goes over the process, just for reference.

^^link to AP workshops manual….2017 model.

Thanks for the manual mate, I have a copy of the manual, but was looking to find what page(s) may cover the process/procedure for replacing the gear position sensor. Did a search within the service manual but didn't find much write up.

Torque values for the two bolts securing the gear position sensor to the body, and any other parts be helpful.

Cheers. Beer
