Morning all

Put the track bike back together yesterday after finally completing the sprag clutch change.

It all went back together well, connected battery back up, left it on charge overnight and to allow all the Loctite 648 to cure but this morning it won't start.

Ignition on, fuel pump primes as normal but hit the starter button and all I get is a click from the fuel pump relay and the noise of the fuel pump running.

Since I have a load of spares in the garage already, I've changed the fuel pump relay for a known working one, the starter solenoid, the starter motor itself and replaced the battery with another, fully charged one.

No difference!  So, what next people?

Need this bike running asap 'cos I'm booked in at Cadwell next saturday.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Yup!

Found a post on Af1 where a guy in the US describes exactly the same problem as I have.

Advice on there suggests checking the power across the terminals of the starter solenoid and check that it drops to almost 0 when trying to start.  Mine didn't so I thought I'd check one of my other bikes and it did.  So, swapped the solenoid from the working bike to the track bike and bizarrely I now have no voltage drop across the solenoid terminals when pushing the starter.

Weird to say the least!

Jon, scratching his head :-(

the voltage drop across the solenoid is only relevant IF the solenoid is being activated..
try the screwdriver across the solenoid trick (big spark) to try running the starter manually, see if it runs okay.

Any Alarm? or evidence of a previous one?

sidestand, clutch safety circuit - that can prevent the starter from running.

I could have pretended that I had spent hours tracing the problem to a dodgy earth or broken part but I was always brought up to tell the truthTongue
