Hello all At the moment I have Aprilia Racing carbon exhausts[:p] + fuel injection chip fitted to my 2001 y reg falco and want to give the standard cans a go. Can anybody advise on changing the exhausts & chip? Exhausts seem fairly straightforward but I haven't got a clue about the chip, or where to start with it.[?] Cheers Loui Dude!

Hi Loui, The one problem with chips is that it's fairly easy to damage it. Even Aprilia don't give any warranty on a chip. Another option is to fit a Power Commander (which overrides the chip) you can then change the map from your PC. You can download maps from the internet and then download them to the Power Commander via the usb port. A dyno centre can also fine tune the mapping for your bike - the best part is that if you ever want to go back to racing pipes you can just change the map on the Power Commander.

Cheers Darth, good to know Any idea how to locate the chip? I may try and find it and change it back to the standard unit with the standard exhausts. Cheers Loui[:)] Dude!

HI Loui Did the same to mine put the standard cans & Chip back in. Sounded Crap. But if you want to do its not that hard to do.Take off both seats, Between the seats there is a box with a rubber cover, remove that. Unplug the ECU and slide it out, There are 4 screws on the ECU. undo them & slide off the cover. You will see the chip that has been changed, just pull it out VERY GENTLY. and the same with the standard chip. Then put it all back. But as i said i did the same, and had the loud cans back on the same day.Good Luck.[^] Tim

Couple of tips from my recent experience for anyone doing this: 1. Apparently it's good to wear rubber gloves (prevents static blowing the chip) 2. Use a non-metal object to take out the existing chip (I used a wooden BBQ skewer in the end). Screwdrivers not recommended. Or you could do what I did: ignore the above and blow the fe@@in chip! Darth, I've (carefully) re-fitted the SL carbon chip and it still worked, lucky me! [:D] Spoke to Aprilia dealer that I use for servicing, he advised the SL carbon chip would be OK to run with the standard exhausts. It may be a bit rich but wouldn't damage the engine. If it was the other way round (SL carbon exhausts + standard chip) wouldn't be enough fuel & air mixing and engine may seize. New chip via RSVR £100 + VAT so I will order unless you know of anybody that has a spare for sale?[?] Loui (aka the worst mechanic in the world)[:o)] Dude!

At least the bike is still running. [:)] I've had a dealer swap my standard chip for the Edwards replica chip to smooth out the power curve. It work fine until I discover that they managed to pinch the metal schrouded fuel line (and they are suppose to be professionals) [?] when that was fixed the bike was running way to rich as the Edwards replica had 57mm throttle bodies. I managed to locate a standard chip and are now fitting a power commander to sort out the power curve. Don't know of any other standard chips. What about the dealer that services your bike don't they have a spare? Cheers.

The only problem with the standard exhausts is that they are soooo....heavy. It definitely makes a difference flicking in and out of bends, i notice it when they are on for MOT . They don't sound too bad but the sl carbons are fantastic. can you hear the rumble? can you?...........god is definitely Italian![:o)]

Hey Lorenz90, agree with you The front of the bike feels a lot lighter / more nervous and takes more commitment to make it turn. May have to fiddle with the suspension..... Probably a 4-5kg difference per exhaust you think?[?] Loui Dude!
