G'day - I'm looking at trying to squeeze a track day in before hibernation. I know there's a few mobs that organise them - are there any that are better than others? Before I do I want to get some glass fairings - just in case.
I've seen on the site that a few of you have got the ARD stuff - is it any good? Is it easy enough to fit? Is it worth buying new? (might have to anyway - there doesn't seem to be much used stuff around).
Sorry, a lot of questions I know.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike, I take it that your rsv is an 04>. ive used fairings for my 04 Factory from AirTech who are based in the USA check this site out(http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/aprilla/RSV1000MILLE2004-05.htm) until i totally trashed them, then ive got a set of ARD. Between the two, Airtech was much easier to fit, no cutting or sanding with the dremmel, not sure if ARD come pre-painted as i got mine 2nd hand and they were already painted; Airtech come in white primer. I first bought the AIRTECH front fairing and seat unit and then i got some damged original rsv panels from ebay for £35 (just scratched N scuffed ) and then got the lot painted in one go. The turn around from ordering AIRTECH to delivery at your door was about four weeks not sure what the turnaround is for ARD. Your right second hand stuff is like rocking horse S***T and thats why i had to buy new first time round.
As for trackdays i mainly use Hottrax or No Limits not much between the two except you get free coffee and tea all day with No Limits. Both are very well organised and cater for track day virgins Hope this helps. Jools Edited by jools - 04 Oct 2009 at 16:52 |

Thanks guys - looks like a 3 way price-off!
Andy,
With your 6 offs did you wipe out the front fender? Just debating whether to take all the original plastics off and replace with glass.
Cheers
Mike

For info:
[All: Fairing, seat, front mudguard, screen]
ARD pricing approx £390 + p/p
Race Products pricing approx £376 +p/p (their site doesn't show the later RSVR though - only the pre 2003 model)
Airtech pricing approx £400 + p/p (airmail!!)
I'll give race products a call tomorrow to see if they do '08 model RSVR's. If not, it looks like ARD for me.
Cheers,
Mike

I wish the rest of my bike was made of the same stuff as the front mudguard, i have never even scratched it yet with four big offs to date.
In the aftermath of a nucleal holocaust, there will be two things left standing. Cockroaches and my carbon fibre mudguard!! Jools

It's official. Race products don't do anything for the later models (something to do with there not being enough of them!!).
Opted for the ARD bits and R&G bungs. Hope I like track days! Haven't told 'er indoors' yet.

Just found these on Fleabay. I know they don't match but the price is reasonable.

Glad youve got sorted, let me know how you get on fitting the seat unit?? I still have not fitted the ARD unit yet as i found it difficult to fit. I kept catching the frame with the front of the seat unit and couldnt get it to fit easiliy; and when it wont fit easily i know it will be a bugger to take , especially when i need to take it off in a hurry as you do sometimes. Another member sugested cutting square tabs out to make it fit easier, but my ARD seat unit was fitted to another RSV before and it does not have square tabs cut out so im reluctant to cut if i dont have to. There are pics if you want to have a look on another post (not sure of the name of the post right now but it was posted by me).
Anyway, good luck with the fit and let me know how you got on. Then i can replace my crashed unit over the winter with ease. Cheers Jools

Fairings received, eventually, and fitted without too much trouble. A few tweaks with a dremel here and there sorted it out (holes for crash bungs, etc). As with other posts I've seen there is a gap under the seat unit but thats ok by me (only for track days anyway).
Did my first track day at Mallory yesterday. Gotta love gerrards! Only 4 bikes fell over (one on gerrards, 2 at edwinas, one at hairpin) but they all walked away. I came away unscathed and with a new appreciation of how well the RSVR handles. Might need a steering damper though!
Andy777 - if you want to have a look give me a call on 07769695487. I'm putting the standard gear back on tomorrow as I've got to take it in for a service.
Cheers
Mike

Scozzer Glad you enjoyed your track days, which is bad news for your pocket!! For next year anyway. How did you manage to fix the ARD seat unit without having to bend the front of it too much so that it does not scratch the frame??? I still have not got round to fitting mine yet, as the ARD was not a quick fit, so im still using the one that i trashed. Jools

Jools,
I read a post on RSVZone that suggested relocating the electrics bolted to the side of the sub-frame (don't ask me what they are!!). I removed the bracket from each side, and located the electric gizmos on the 'inside' of the sub frame (just zip tied to anything handy).
After that it was pretty straight forward - just lowered the unit on in a downward/forward movement. Only tricky bit for me was getting the 2 rear light tabs to the inside of the unit. I had to insert one first them move the seat unit sideways a bit to push the other tab in.
I may give it a tickle with the dremel next time but now that I know what to do it might not be worth it.
Another tip I read from RSVZone was to put socks over the ends of the seat unit whilst you fit it to protect your frame/paint - not a bad idea but I didn't need to do it.
I also bought some clear edge trim from Halfords ( 6 quid for 3 metres I think) to protect the tank and frame from the sharp fibreglass edges whilst riding.
All in all - it fitted pretty well considering what it is. Hope this helps.
Mike

Cheers for that Mike. I posted an earlier thread and badger replied, he had cut squares out of the bottom to fix the seat unit. (See Photo on thread). As i bought my ARD seat unit 2nd hand it had previously already been fitted; and it did not have squares cut out; so obviously it fitted without having to cut the squares out which is what i wanted.
iVE tried to fit it earlier to no avail and eventually ran out of time as i was on the track the next day, so i didnt want to start taking stuff apart at the last minute, sods law and all that.!!
The electronics on the side is the starter solunoid (round brassy thing)and the regulator which i thought abought moving but wasnt sure if i could , especially the solunoid. But it looks like you can now i have had a good look at it.
The two rear light tabs are tricky. Ive found its easier to fit metal female tabs (like what holds the main fairings together underneath) onto the plastic tabs with alllen bolts rather than the Aprilia male/female plastic rivets: as the plastic seat tabs tend to lift when you try and fit the rivets because they have no upward/downward support that the rear light gives it. Thats a good tip about the socks, mind you i,ll have to find a pair that havent got holes in the end !! Cheers for your input Mike. Jools
