WTF is that? I take it some previous owner has attempted the wiring mod and either messed up or its just been cooked by the heat?

would I need a full loom or is there a fix? I really don't fancy doing a full rewire..............

That is the wiring from the stator. Those wires do get pretty hot and get toasted over time on most bikes. On mine i cut out the plug and hard wired it (soldered and heatshrink). It won't effect general running just charging if the connections get really bad.

I doubt it is an attempted mod, more just the plastic insulation breaking down over time.  Common to most modern bikes to be honest. We had a Yamaha on tour in Spain with us that was eating regs and battaries as fast as petrol and was cooking the electrics. If he did over 85 it blew all the bulbs. Fixed up and quickly sold when we got back.

Don't be fooled it's an ape thing, it's just an age thing.

You'd be surprised how cheap looms can be had for Andy. Not that I've got a few Wink

Take a whole one, chop & splice the bits you need & have loads left in reserve.

Best teacher is to have the failures yourself. One day you will impart your fix knowledge to another ape owner and sort them out.
It's always a learning experience for all of us when a new thing pops up.

I've just had to do this to my Gen 2 Tuono, the wires on the Rec-Reg started going so replaced that in the hope of stopping a Stator failure, however the damage was already done 3 weeks later had to replace that swell.

Hardwiring/replacing that connector (and the reg/reg one on the subframe) is a 'standard' mod mate - nothing to get too upset about.

Yup,that's the white one that normally fares better, the really crap BROWN one lives up by the reg.

Luigi wired these bikes with spaghetti rather than proper wire and decent connectors LOL

Same here,I saw loads of pics of problem ones and just cut mine out and hardwired them before they decided to burnout.

Took the opportunity while playing with wires to do the aux wiring mods as well,in total that made about 2 volts difference as I recall.
