if you buy one don’t buy a pattern part
there have been stories of cheap solenoids jamming and catching alight the upgraded model Griff sells at AP has been tested for years

Yes Mark, I've heard about the cheap solenoids and wouldn't touch one.
I know Griff sells the updated Aprilia solenoid and would probably go with this. At the moment I'm unable to reproduce the non start, typical. As soon as I can deffo confirm the solenoid is at fault I'll get a replacement. I know the one Griff sells is the updated Aprilia one fitted to 2006 bikes onwards, is it the Hitachi one?

That was my problem too Steve, but over time the problem got more frequent until it was say one in three or four attempts and then almost every time! It was then possible to trace the fault with a meter with a bit of patience. Throughout all of this the solenoid 'clicked' when energised even when it did not complete the 'start' circuit. The last thing you want is to be miles from home when it eventually decides it's had enough! I
Yes, they are Hitachi and that is what I've got on mine. It might be worth getting a replacement anyway, if it solves the problem then job done and if not you have a useful spare sitting on the shelf for when you need it.
