Gen 1 2003 model, 2004 plate?

   Ok, so my mate has just bought an RSV too, its an 'old shape' 2003 but on an 04 plate. He also had one a number of years back which was also an 'old shape' 2003 on an 04 plate. The first one was just the RSV mille, this new one is an R with the Ohlins, fancy wheels etc.
He says its the old model but with the updated engine specs etc. Almost what you would call a crossover model.

Can anyone shed any light on it?  I can't find any literature/documentation to confirm.

	It has a close ratio gearbox in this year and big valve heads as per 01 onwards but still twin spark plugs and 51 mm throttle bodies,3 bolt exhaust flanges...this is the one he has. The later engine is single spark plug ,4 bolt exhaust flanges ,bigger valve heads ,57mm throttle bodies.etc etc
