    Posted: 09 Jul 2014 at 08:54

Hi guys,

I have an 08 RSV1000R and have just ordered the PiperX air filter for my bike.

I'm being told Sprint filters are best for my bike and now I'm confused?

I like the idea of the maintenance on Sprint filters, as you just blow them with an airline and don't need to worry about oiling them or washing them etc...?

Can anyone clarify or confirm which is best?

Cheers

I've always rated K&N but  if you don't want to oil that's no good for you - but you only do it when new then at 50K - will you do that many miles?

If it's just a filter, go with what you're happy with. Performance wise it's not going to make much difference on its own pal.
Not that you'd notice through the seat of your pants anyway.

Yeah, they pretty much all do the same job so don't worry about it. It's all marginal a JB says.

Cheers for the link - I've added it to my watch list :)

What's its purpose? I'm also just read on another forum that I'll need to modify the piperX filter in order to fit?

Something about cutting some rubber off to avoid Throttle bods? Confused

The filter is just the beginning of all my future mods in mind.

I already have straight through Ti Akra's and now I'm looking to switch from Map1 to Map2 and get my TB's Adjusted to suit.

The Air filter will help surely - Especially if I also purchase the kit in the link above? Whatever it does?! (looks like a gasket of some description?) Will I need to make any other mods in order to get that to fit too? Confused

basically you throw away your airbox lid this then enlarges yoru airbox by using the bottom of the tank as the new lid the gasket sealing to the tank, along with yout akra's and map2 it will be good.

However, would you run an open air filter 24/7, as I notice it states 'Race' Confused

its not open as such..it uses your filter and sealed against the tank  no different to what you have now but larger volume = more power

Using the standard paper filter and changing it regularly actually gives better ponies than K&N/Pipercross etc.  It's just as it clogs the other aftermarket paper filters gain a performance advantage but dont kid yourself it's much, because the Dyno says differently.  I think K&N used to claim +4BHP but that must have been in some other worldly dream planet because swapping out the standard filter for a K&N might add a little more induction noise but that's about all I noticed until I had the bike properly mapped andset up.

As above;  open airbox, custom chip and rebalanced TBs are about the best and cheapest power/runnnig upgrades you can get. (assuming you already have pipes which wont strangle the engine).

Hi Vee60

I've already got the Ti Akra's with no baffles, so my plan is to wait and buy the Evo open Air filter gasket thingamajiggy before fitting my piperX filter. Then once that's done I'll ask them to switch from Map1 to Map2 and rebalance my TB's and CO - The way forward do you think?

Then PCV to follow in time along with the RoadsItalia PROJSIZ..... That's the plan anyway..... Confused

That should do the trick.  Twin Akras will lose you a little lower mid range grunt over a single can (especially one with a modded collector)  but should give a more linear delivery and gain some more ponies up top.  Open airbox and piperX plus open Akras = earplugs Wink

Now that's what I'm talking about?! Thumbs Up

Just received Filter and it's not in an original Piper box?! It's just wrapped in plastic and stuck in a jiffy bag?! Purchased by AR-Racing UK as well?! Confused

I'm thinking sending it back for full refund and just order the Sprint Filter instead, as no oils required for cleaning, just an air-line? What do you think?

Hi Griff,

Heard nothing but good reviews about you guys, I just wish you lived closer?!

Where is it your based again and what would the cost be to have your induction kit (including filter I presume?) fitted, Map2 set and TB's & CO all reconfigured? Big smile

Sorry, I get excited just thinking about improving my 'Bitches' ride Smile

Hi guys, I just read this in another forum - "Hi

The differences are thus:

The Evo airkit retains the bottom of the airbox and replaces the upper part with a rubber seal and a billet aluminium ring. The seal presses against the perimiter of the tank and so uses the underside of the tank as the lid of the airbox giving more volume. There's a higher flow replacement for the standard air filter to improve airflow into the airbox. The system retains and makes use of any performance gains through the forward-pointing air intakes on the RSV so it has, in effect, got RAM air.

The Renegade kit replaces the entire airbox with a carbon-fibre plate that mounts on the throttle bodies and a high-flow air filter that fits on top of the carbon plate. Any RAM-air effects of the inlet tubes are not used but, because there is no lid on the airbox, at all, ever, the airflow into the engine is unimpeded.

The performance gains are probably slightly better from the Rene than the Evo but the Evo gets better the faster you go.

I've not fitted the Rene kit but it's supposed to be fairly easy. The Evo is a bit of a pain and I always doubted whether mine sealed properly. I've now gone back to the stock airbox with the Evo filter in it.

So, which would I buy? Neither! They're both expensive at over 100 quid and, having had my eyes opened a bit by the way things are done in the dirt bike world, I thought there must be a better way. I've since seen the airkit Pertech Imports are selling for the RSV and I'd buy that one. It replaces the airbox lid with a one-piece, very large foam filter in a stiff metal frame that just bolts in. And it costs fifty quid! It's not on their website yet but email Duncan at Pertech (duncan@pertech-imports.com) and ask him about it."

AP? Is the Induction kit you provide one of the above or is it similar to that of Pertechs perhaps?

People talking about the seal once fitted worries me?  Confused

Cheers

The one Pertechs imports sounds very similar to the MWR ones: http://www.racingairfilters.eu/?ids=kop3/sub1 but cheaper!

AP supplied me with a performance filter, a rubber seal and an ring to bolt onto the bottom of the airbox, I think. I didn't fit it but i think thats how it works. You really should just take your bike there mate and all of these questions you have will be answered in an instant and they will more than likely keep everything you need in stock. Its bread and butter to them. Im sure they've done dozens and dozens. Keep things simple and go to those who know best. Its nice to have a tinker yourself but why waste your time finding out stuff that they already know?
