Hi I have an 03 mille R which I love. Recently it has started randomly cutting out when I change up a gear, especialy into 6th. Also noticed sometimes when i start bike it has reverted to KPH spedo setting and running in rev limmiter. weird.

That happened to me on my 02. The most obvious place to look is the side stand switch which goes bad on these bikes. There is a procedure to bypass the switch, but still have the light on the dash go on when the side stand is down. If I find the link, I'll post it.
Do you have any message on the clocks / guages when the bike cuts out? If so, that would point you in the right direction. Edited by sjamurath - 05 Jul 2010 at 22:11 |

Not sure about the cutting out but reverting to kilometers on start was the battery on my previous mille, a new battery fixed the problem.
The rev counter change up light would also go back to the running in rev limit of 6000 . Your bike should normally start first turn, not go four or five turns, thats when the dash tended to reset on my previous mille. |

From what I understand there could be many things causing the cutting off of the engine. I would check things in the following order:
0. Make sure battery is being charged properly
1. Side stand sensor (Do bypass mod)
2. Tip over sensor (under seat)
3. Ilde too low (try 1500 rpm)
4. Bad ground/earth or lose connection at clocks/dash or computer
5. TPS needs adjustment with CO levels set
6. bad map or chip
I just did the side stand mod and took it for a short test ride and it seemed ok. I won't know for sure until I ride it more.
