Had you been local you could have taken mine for a ride today

I went out and got as far as putting the key in the garage lock then thought " just can't be arsed" and went back indoors for a coffee Big smile

Traffic was snarled up and all the local roads were full of frustrated drivers doing all sorts of daft things so even though the weather was really good it probably wasn't a good idea to be out.

Got another 5 weeks of local mayhem till the roadworks are finished,by then the best riding times will have passed Confused

is that the a5 or whatever it's called?  Get out if you have a chance Ian and make the most of it bud. Once you're out of the snarl ups enjoy the other roads lol. I'm having to think about getting electric to shed too so I can keep bike on the optimate charger,  at minute she's only in it during day cos I've got to take extension cable off at night to lock shed. Was looking at solar power optimate 10w or 20w charger. Any ideas?

It's the A55 with the holdups a few miles down the road, unfortunately that gets choked and everyone is trying the minor roads and they're getting stuffed as well.

As for leccy in the garage I just do what you do with an extension lead when I need power.

Get a Lithium battery, absolutely no need for an Optimiser

In fact there is no need for an Optimiser full stop, like Apple products they're an unnecessary, over priced, over hyped ad agency's wet dream.

I had the oem lead acid battery on the SV WITH an alarm for over 6 years with only disconnecting it in Nov and re fitting it in March every year.

I'd go a month sometimes without starting the bike and it always fired up first time every time without outside help.

a55 that's what i meant lol put it down to old age and getting forgetful. Yes I can believe it's manic around there. I used to go see a friend in Caernarfon few years back and once you passed portmadoc the traffic used to build up and got crazy in few parts. Boy racers and traffic for Anglesey not a good mix.  Shame the traffic stopping you getting out like

That was only a small consideration,I'd just come back from the shops at Rhuddlan down the road and thought I'd get the bike out as the nice weather wasn't going to last forever.

Got as far as opening the first lock on the garage and just couldn't be bothered going any further

Just thought 'Sod it' and went back indoors,I really don't get much enjoyment from riding these days.

I took it round the corner last week for it's Mot and after sitting down and waiting for that to be done I was almost inclined to just leave it there and walk back for a change Shocked   Couldn't even get enthused about riding it the 1/2 mile back.

Not really worth having a pair of 1000cc sport bikes is it?Confused

Sorry Ian but I have to disagree, my Apes were plugged in every now and then to top them up when I couldn't ride if I didn't none of them would fire. The previous owner of my Daytona gave me the optimate charger with the bike and I didn't bother with it as I didn't think it was necessary on anything other than a twin, didn't touch it for four weeks during the 6 week kids break but had one day to myself and it was gorgeous weather so off to go out for the day but she was dead as a dodo! Called my mate and he ssid it had never done that before in the six years he had it and it was always on charge and its the original battery from 2010! Not gad any other " no go's " since leaving it on charge most of the time.

cheers badapple bud. For the price I'll make sure I enjoy the nitron lol. More stuff on finance I can't afford lol. Think I've had the Friday afternoon special with the tuono lol. Never had such an unlucky bike. Never mind onwards and upwards. Feels like Harley syndrome sometimes lol. Sometimes, like Ian says I just don't want to ride her cos I wonder what's going to go wrong next lol. However,  the motors really sweet and she's great to ride. Just got to get my faith back. What it's cost this year with getting her serviced, radiator bought and fitted, battery, getting her shipped to AP and back and now a shock I could have bought a good 2nd hand bandit12. 2k on getting her sorted this year including shock. Might have to let her go next year, becoming a money pit with money I've not gotCry

Sorry to hear that but I'd say you have a bike/battery issue

Batteries have a finite life and having them constantly hooked up to a trickle charger would probably be masking the symptoms.

Again, invest in a modern lithium unit and then after a while come back and then tell me you need a trickle charger Wink

The regulator rectifier was replaced on recall so that's all good, I'm considering the lithium battery as I'm currently on a weight saving mission in it as its so light already, 175kg wet , and I've managed to lose another 6 with the titanium exhaust and carbon seat unit but I'll only replace it if it fails completely. Until then we will have to agree to disagree hehehe Wink

Yes fingers crossed buddy lol.  I do love the bike when it's working lol. I've ordered the r2 nitron,  the middle one of the range.  I'll never get to use its full potential as I'm not that good a rider but I figured if I'm going to spend then I'd better get a good one. Apparently they're a good piece of kit so I opted for it.  Only downside is they're built to order so 2-3 week waiting time. Just got to pay the finance off now lol.  The guys at Brooke suspension  (where I ordered it from) were really helpful. Worst part was weighing myself in full kit to give approximate weight so they can set it up for my weight apparently lol. Just made me realise that I am  big boned LOL all I gotta do once I'm up and running is go for spin to get rid of half the hugger off back tyre lol

LOL

Well,as they say " You can lead a horse to water but........Wink

If your bike won't start after being left unattended for 3 weeks then you have battery/charging/mechanical issues no question.

Which of the 3,or which combination is up for debate.

But countering it by keeping a battery on trickle charge is like putting a band aid on a wound that needs stitches.

The longest I've left mine so far  3 weeks + when I still had the lead acid and 5 weeks + Lithium both cases fired up first piston to firing point,no turning over, just like switching on a light.

If yours doesn't do that you have issues to sort

I've never had an issue with my rear brake either Wink

Just a suggestion, but buy an old trail bike (doesn't need to be a flash one). I think there's a fair few lovely lanes around your way, and some nice folk riding them.
A Honda XR400 or similar will be fine...you don't need an expensive bike.

Big smile

Been there, done that, got fed up and gave bikes up for a few years. That was after about 4 seasons racing passenger in a sidecar outfit.

Followed that with a race tuned Triumph T90s followed by a couple of new Honda 550 4's to a Suzuki SP370 then a Pe 175t which I modded so far it would wheelie changing up into 4th on standard gearing.

Got bored with that so took up flying gliders instead for a decade or so.

Got that out of my system and decided I'd get another bike, was going to get a Ktm Duke when they first came out but went for a manic CCM R30 instead as it went like stink and sounded like the apocalypse with a straight through race can LOL

Ran that for around a year and traded that in 2003 for one of the first SV1000s's to hit the dealers ( I got the second of the first ever allocation of three) and the first Blue model in Wales.

Kept that until about 2012/13 I think and then got shot as I'd bought a Mille in 2009 and the Sv never got used.

Mille now not been used since Jerez 2 1/2 years ago and the Tuono I bought a few years back does less than 500 miles a year.

Fancy going back to flying or perhaps Para gliding now and giving bikes up or at least certainly road bikes.

Bikes really don't rock my world any more, unfortunately after about 53 years on and off it's now more of a penance than a pleasure riding on the road.

Having said all that I forced myself to go out for a ride today, was out for about 3 hours meandering around the B roads of N Wales.

Strangely therapeutic but somewhat underwhelming in the enjoyment stakes.

Anyway enough thread jacking,as Cwp hasn't posted further I just thought I'd keep his thread alive LOL

Shock looks very nice Clap

I think that's one of the areas Aprilia really cheaped out on the later base model twins, especially compared with the fully adjustable Sachs on the rear of the gen1 Milles.

I was thinking this afternoon as I was riding that's the area that would benefit most from upgrading.

Also I need to get into my forks again and further adjust the shim stacks,I cocked up and ended up softening the compression too much and now using too much travel as the springs aren't supporting the weight properly.

I was getting massive dive under braking with normal sag settings so wound in a lot more preload and really cranked up the compression screws to compensate.

I've known this from the first time I rode the new setup a couple of years ago but I've ridden it so infrequently it wasn't worth pulling the legs and sourcing stiffer springs,so I've just ridden round the issue.

Amazing what you can put up with when apathy strikes LOL

Yes buddy it's an awesome bit of kit straight out of the box.  It might need a click of rebound but for me so far it's fine, planted in bends and loads of feedback. It's like a new bike lol. Yes Rick,  it was set up to my lard arse frame lol. I supplied my weight in kg in full kit and that was it
