I've just bought a new Tsubaki Sigma XRS 525 chain and found that it's got a solid pin connecting link. Does anybody know if I can get a soft pin link to fit, either a Tsubaki or another make? The other alternative would be to buy a Whale Tool and use the solid link.

Give B&C a quick call on 01522 791369
http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/ They are Tsubaki importers and main agents. The solid pins are ok to peen over, just take your time. These days, I use a cheapo air chisel (about £20) with a rivet snap that I bought on ebay. I've used Tsubaki several times and they make a great chain. |

I bought an Oxford chain splitter/rivoter, ground old chain links off by drill a 1" grind stone plus did same carefully with heads of extra links on new DID chain then did rest with Oxford tool, also watched googled vids of how to do it properly so not to get a tight link etc .this was with the rivot link supplied .

Cheers folks, the guys at CMC Chesterfield where I got the chain from found that Tsubaki don't do a soft pin link. As I need the bike for the Brackley Festival at the weekend I've coughed up for the Whale Tool which should hopefully turn up in time to get the chain sorted.

Pleased you've got sorted, b&c are local to me when I got my chain from there they loan the whale tool (with a deposit) which is handy, but if you've got one on it's way all the better can never have enough tools.

Got the chain joined using the whale tool, it was literally line everything up and hit it four times with the hammer. Had a good run down to Brackley Festival with a mate who knows the back lanes which kept us off the motorway. The bike feels totally different now it's running 16/44 gearing along with new Avon Storms.
