Depends who you ask as the service manual doesn't give a size. I know Griff qoutes 1/8 bsp and Af1 qoute 10 x 1 metric. Amauri told me it was an odd ball size if you measured it with proper gauges and fell between 1/8 bsp and metric.

The upshot seems to be that the difference is so small to be as little as a loose or tight fit and both seem to do the job so take your pick. I know when I had to drill out the front one on my gen2, I re tapped it with 10 x 1 thread as I don't have Bsp anyway and an oem bung went in as normal. It seemed logical to me that an Italian manufacturer would use a metric rather than british standard for it's thread sizes as per the rest of the bike.

I did look into this a while back and I agree it's more likely Aprilia would use a metric fine thread rather than an old imperial pipe thread.

HOWEVER, I seem to recall that while the pitch is pretty much identical the thread angle is different.

So a bit like 1/4" Whit and 1/4" UNC both the same TPI, but a good Whitworth bolt won't easily go in a good UNC tapped hole  ( or Vice versa)

I started cleaning my ex port with a 10x1 and it was very tight on the tap so I went back to a BSP and it seemed easier Confused
