That's dangerous, a good chance of Rossi's leg getting caught when Rossi feels like kicking another bike.... |

Wow!!! That is using every available millimeter in the rule book I'm sure!!! The technical director was discussing the rules on faired aerodynamics on crash.net the way it read I thought the Yamaha ones were ok and that they would all bring out some similar versions but that thing looks pretty big!!!

One has to remember that it's a race bike at the highest level. In the same vein as an F1 car, which we don't see motoring down our high streets.
I like to see development in aerodynamics, because I'm not a great fan of electronic aids controlling everything. Some hated the Mille front end fairing and baffles, but here we are, all loving them now. If it filters down to road bikes, it will probably be in a more subtle way. Look at the front fairing on the Kawasaki H2 missile, (which I don't like) you can see it's design is influenced in the same way, with spoilers under the intakes, flattened upper fairing and little wings here and there, all providing down force. I'm surprised it's taken so long to be taken seriously enogh, now we have production road bikes/track bikes with 200 bhp. The Duc front end has obviously been tested well enough for Ducati to do this. But it is the mark 1 version and will probably be refined more as the race seasons roll on. That's what MotoGP is also about. Not just racing but development as well. |

i am really pleased to see the manufacturers still developing aerodynamic fairings even with the winglet ban.
the winglet period was very interesting as the development and designs were extremely visual and obvious, many developments are hidden away. you can see improved performance in lap times or consistency but not always in the technology itself whereas the winglets were out for all to see and then the different styles and approaches. in the post-wingxit period has continued to provide interest in the preseason tests. the ducati fairing isnt a beaut but its a talking point. i like the RS-GP approach looks deliberate and well thought-out where as the yamaha and suzuki was just adding an outer skin over wings. it will be interesting to see the continue development of these systems. |
