Really could use some input if anyone has something to offer.
I run a couple of RSV’s and the most ordinary of all of them has started making a weird noise.
If you go through the gears on around 1/4 throttle it’s clatters until you roll off the gas. Open it up again and it’s quiet.
Doesn’t do it all the time but it’s enough to worry me a little.
Sounds like valve train noise but that makes no sense.

Fully serviced, low miles but just had a new sprag clutch.

Any pointers???

If you did the sprag yourself, did you use the correct loctite. The flywheel nut and flywheel have been known to work loose if not.

So many variables, clutch basket chatter, drivetrain noise when chain isn’t under much load, even something physically loose.  A good physical check around the bike and if you think it’s engine, maybe try seeing if it goes quiet if you dip the clutch a smidge or cam pinpoint which side the noise is coming from.

Does the noise happen when riding, on the stand or both?
If on the stand, get someone to work the throttle and use a screwdriver, handle end to you ear and place the tip at various points around the engine. That might allow you to pinpoint the area of where the noise is coming from, alternatively, buy a mechanics stethoscope.
Sticky cam chain tensioner perhaps ??

It behaves perfectly and it only makes this rattle occasionally.
I’ve been in and up close to the motor and there’s nothing loose or out of place.
It’s one of those noises that makes you want to grab a fist full of clutch and stop.

I shall persist …
