I have a 2007 Tuono that was running fine until after a short stop it "kicked back" on starting, after that it was running really badly with the service warning on the clocks showing. I have accessed the fault diagnosis on the clocks and they aren't showing any faults. I know the bike has a limp home mode, but  I understood this just to be limit on revs, not as mine is a"crawl home just about on your hands and knees " I would appreciate any ideas , Cheers

Not up on the Tuono's, so 'till someone else sounds off I'll stick my neck out and say the battery has just about died kicking the bike into a limp home mode of some sorts.  Sounds like it almost took the sprag on the way too.

Hope it didn't make any horrid noise when it kicked back mate :( check yr voltages n the reg/rec n charging system - how to guides mate! Low voltage will cause lots of issues with these apes!
The noise on kicking back (sprag)

The diag mode only shows active codes, if the ignition goes off the codes are lost dash wise. The chances are there is a code stored in the ecu.

Being a Gen2 motor i would be looking at stator output voltage for a bike that struggled to start and run that had otherwise ran fine.
If the stator is fried and the batt voltage drops enough the injectors/pump loses voltage and the CAN bus eventually throws codes, often very spurious ones.
Have a look at the running dash voltage before doing much else which should be north of 13v ideally mide to late 13's.  If that looks fine there are other things we can check for rough running and a CEL

Thanks for the replies guys, but the battery voltage is good and the cranking speed is good,it starts o.k. but just runs rough as rats! I have noticed that when the ignition is turned on after about 15 seconds the sevice and warning triangle comes on . Once again thanks for the advice.

but is it charging ? or holding its charge ? if good on board volt meter should be reading in excess of 13.8v when left running for a few minutes , even going up to 14 volts if you are lucky .

Assuming the dash voltage is ok, If you get the revs up does it clear or is it the same at any revs ?

The many stators I got through, used to start fine do 10 miles park it up , get on it start it click , click
when very bad , you start by getting a annoying misfire, when very very bad goes into limp mode can't do more than 20mph and engine sound like a bag of spanners then dies.
