    Posted: 18 Oct 2013 at 23:08
Hi all, ages since I've had time to post on here. don't seem to get time for anything more than a quick lurk in the background, and always fighting my kids for the comp, (yep, I am tight and they can buy there own when they need one ! )

Anyways, the soles on my Sidi's were completely knackered, worn right  through after about 2 years of use, but still bloody comfy and the uppers are in great condition. Haven't got the dosh for new and didn't fancy seccy hand boots off eBay.
bought replacement soles off eBay for £18. Local cobbler's shop fitted em for £20, stitched inside and bonded outside. Good as new (apart from needing a clean !)

I think the newer Sidi's have screw on soles, that can be replaced yourself ( Vortices, I think ??) but if ya got an older pair, give it a go, well pleased with the results

Maybe worth the cobbler doing a postal service as he may get a lot of business...have a word with him and post up his details

That's a great fix! Defying the throwaway nature of everything nowadays, and saving a loada cash over new boots

I'll give Sidi's a look when I get around to buying some new ones then,if they're comfortable and they care about their customers enough to supply new soles they deserve more custom I reckon.

Sidi's all the way Ian, used to wear Alpinestars but with skinny legs like mine, and the wide boots,  looked like sparrows hanging out their nests. like the way ya can tighten em to fit ya calfs.
The soles are pretty thin to start with, the geezer in the shop said I've done too much walking in them !!!

I've never tried any Sidi's on actually, somehow I think I equated them to MX type use what with the heavy looking clamp type things rather than a comfy race type boot.

I just want something that's safe, easy to ride in and comfy enough for a day wandering around race paddocks etc.

Oh,and waterproof as well, price is almost a secondary concern,or rather it was till I found out how much Daytona's go for ...... around £800+ Shocked

I don't intend spending half of what the bike cost me just to get a pair of boots, well not unless they come with a free to use for a week page 3 model Wink

I've had the Vertigo Mega Goretex for 4 years now. Very comfortable (even with arthritic big toe joints), and they've never leaked. Bit sweaty in warmer weather, though, but OK as a 3-season boot (with the right socks).

RIDE magazine always seem to have good product tests...they don't try a 'waterproof' oversuit on and say oh this is good. They rack up hundreds of road miles and pressure wash a rider to see if it leaks. Plus as their 'recommended' and 'best buy' awards show, its not always the most famous or expensive make that comes out on top.

I had mine done this year by a friend of mine who repairs shoes for a living and hes done the trick! Soles were cheap off ebay also. So my 2nd hand sidi vertigos that cost me £50 have a new lease of life. Well worth doing.
