Okey dokey, I'm being a bit thick but struggling to remove the steering damper of the RSVR - is there an easy way to get at the bolt under the steering?

In a word, NO!  Angry

It's extremely fiddly even with the front bodywork removed. And by the look of many of the used front subframes on ebay (Many with drilled out threads) they are often seized too!

I would be interested if anyone else has found a simple solution

Hey so glad you said this ๐Ÿ˜€ I haven't even started removing bodywork bar an in fill as I was hoping not to have to.

Basically it's causing the bike to weave a bit, I've tried it with the the damping wound off but still no joy, what worked was on doing the fixed end, hence wanting to remove it.

Mind you, it's only a few minutes to remove the whole front fairing, one electrical plug and a few bolts and the whole thing comes away as one.

You can remove it with a spanner but it can be fiddly to do.

As legend says itโ€™s much easier to remove the front fairing.

Gen1 or 2?

It itโ€™s a Gen1 you need to also remove the grub screw and then the actual bolt

If it still weaves without it fitted, have a good look and grease of the dog bone, rear shock and also check the swingarm and rear wheel bearings. They can easily cause a front end weave

It's a gen2, it's defo the damper. I had the dog bone link and bearing looked at when I got the stator sorted. Also riding with it disconnected and the weave went away.

My laziness got the better of me ๐Ÿ˜‚

oem or Ohlins damper?
I had an Ohlins fitted to my Gen 1 Tuono which caused tramlining.
The bushes dry out and it becomes stiff to get moving.
At £100 for a service, I replaced it with the oem.
People say I don't know Jack Sh1t; but I do, he lives next door.

It's an ร–hlins, I might get it serviced, but I'll see how I get on without it.

When I took the Ohlins steering damper off my Mille R in the Summer I roped my wife in to help remove the damper as her hands are smaller than mine and that's with the top fairing off. The damper had partially seized as the bike hadn't been used much over the last few years. I've had it rebuilt but not refittted it yet - a job for the winter months.

I changed mine, Gen2.
Removed the plastic under steering, where the brake lines go through. 3 bolts that hold it, held i down and with an extra long tool got the bolt loose.
Top one is easy with small side panels removed.

I tried that, as in removed the 3 screws on that plastic bit but couldn't actually remove it or drop/twist it enough. I think I'll give it another go because to me it did seem the easiest way.

Needs a little wiggling, loosen the rubber grommets from the plate. Use a little silikone spray to get them back into the grooves.
