Hi folks, I've got a quick question on brake rotors. Is there anyone here who uses wave rotors on their Aprilias? If so, what's the difference between wave rotors and regular drilled rotors in real life?
It's time to replace the ones I have, and I consider different options. Wave rotors are something I have never dealt with, so I decided to ask you folks before buying anything.
Thanks.

Differing opinions on this, but I believe they're supposed to be lighter weight and to disperse heat more quickly.

Question everything.

They also reckon to shave the pads down quicker, how true that is I'm not sure but I don't recall seeing race items being slotted so that would indicate it's a fashion statement rather than anything beneficial.

Standing by for incoming from those incredibly talented riders who NEED super uprated brakes due to their prowess on the roads and like to show it in their mods Wink LOL

LOL. I fitted wavey discs, they look good or at least I think so and they do what they're supposed to.

Someone on here thought they had less friction area so in theory provide inferior stopping performance, logically I suppose that makes sense but....meh whatever

Were they not developed in moto-X? I can see that making more sense.

Kawasaki fitted them for a bit to road bikes, but went back to drilled iirc.

I have them because they look less boring than a round circle to me. I've no illusion of them being better. Even more shocking, I'm upgrading them, for no other reason than I have new flash wheels, no kids or mortgage and it will make me slightly happier for a bit. Fickle thing that I am. Shocked Embarrassed

Question everything.

I think that is correct, to help clean the discs and pads between uses on really filthy tracks.

Surface area has no effect on absolute stopping performance. It can have an effect on cooling though so may have an effect on sustained heavy use if the discs and/or pads overheat, but very unlikely in other than a race scenario.

For value for money don't think you could do much better than these,  unless you are picky about having gold carriers

Had braking waves on mine for numerous years. Didn't notice any extra braking performance but they always pulsed the lever at slow speeds.

I can't remember where I read it but I did read something by Brembo about wave discs, basically saying that they did look into them but couldn't find any performance  increase or evidence of any operational improvements so they just didn't see any point in releasing any.
Better to have something you don't need than need something you don't have....

I appreciate all the replies. I will keep checking on the waves then. Last night I saw descently priced wave rotors (link) by the brand I've never heared of, it's Braking. Do you think it will make sense to try only the front first? Just out of curiosity? If it will work well, I will do the new pads then... Does this sound reasonable to you folks?

I had braking waves on mine and you need to be careful which pads you use with them, mine didn't like ebc pads but were good with sbs and I know galfer usually specify which pads to use with theres.

That's another thing to consider with aftermarket disc's,the more upmarket you go the more you need to consider pad matl.

Standard stainless disc's you can just throw anything at them and they'll work to a greater or lesser effect, whereas fancy ones will really only work best with certain pad compositions

Wow, thanks for telling this! Last night I was looking for the EBS and even thought of ordering them!
