Topic: Uprated Suspension Link Plates
Posted By: SPOOKY
Subject: Uprated Suspension Link Plates
Date Posted: 28 Apr 2013 at 17:56
Started in For Sale from the original thread from technical section.

Uprated suspension link plates for Gen 2 as shown below next to original Aprilia part.
Made from T6082 T6 aluminium alloy which is stronger and supersedes T6061 that the AF1 plates are made from. Natural hard anodised finish.

http://s286.photobucket.com/user/GOBSOT/media/DSC01141.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">

Price for a set of plates is £24 + £2 p&p

Also shown custom made PTFE Teflon shim washers for the dog bone and swingarm bearings for both Gen1 and Gen2. These take out the end float which causes the plates to rub against the dog bone, they also help keep road crap away from the bearings.

Price is 90p each + £1.00 p&p (postage covers up to 6 washers)

Washers ordered with plates will be covered in the plate p&p

Crappy Bit :
If you decide to fit these plates you do so at your own risk.  I accept no responsibility for any damage or failure to any component of the rear suspension and / or any other part of your motorcycle, before or after fitment.
Fitting of these plates does not negate the individuals responsibilities and needs to maintain all bearings within the whole of the rear suspension setup. These bearings should be inspected, serviced and greased at regular intervals.

No you can't you pikey manc Ouch

Only joking or am I ?

You know my big red lifter is yours should you need it big boy.

Just a word of warning on this, if you change the plates or just fit the washers be prepared for the replacement of the needle roller bearings in the dog bone and swingarm. You might not think that you will need them but I've just finished one tonight and the bastard bearings where locked solid with rust and sh*te, 06 bike full service history ! ? ! ?

Mine was an 07, 7000miles, full service, and I caught it before the rust got too bad to polish out.. JUST..

everyone attempting this should consider replacing the cheap shiz oil seals that protect the needle bearings. simply bearings, £1.89 each, needs 6. Pry out, press in with thumb.

I need a set for my Gen1.
Do you also recommend fitting a set at the end of the dog bone linkage, where it mounts to the engine bracket?

Not really looked at developing the linear linkage as I think it would be of limited interest for track addicts only. Only got in to the standard uprated ones as a help out and got to know a laser cutter.  May have a few irons in the fire with regards to a sort of similar dog bone to Spoon Valley but again original length so standard ratio.

I read somewhere that Spoon Valley stopped doing them as there was such a small market for them, you'd also have to be pretty confident regarding stress analysis to sell something like that to the general public.

Spooky, thanks for the quick turn around on the washers. Just out of interest what are the centre to centre measurements on the Gen 2 triangles.? In searching for the right linkage aet up I bought a futura linkage, the dog one is 130mm which is correct but the triangles are wrong,  I think 85, 85 and 60, just thought they looked similar to your Gen 2 triangles. Cheers matt

Either put a bar through the swingarm pivot and rest it on a set of axle stands or a stand that doesn't use the swingarm. Where are you based?
