Has anyone used the Metezler CompK slicks, they say that they don't need tyre warmers, they also say it's a beginner tyre or a transition tyre, they also last a long time.
Or would you be better of using a treaded K2 and K1? I have K2s and 1s on the Gen 2 factory, the compK slicks I was thinking of putting on the R6 track bike http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/mobile/products/tyres-catalogue/Racetec-RR-Compk-Slick.html All advice welcome and appreciated. Thanks |

I`ve done a day at Croft and a day and a half at Anglesey
on a set with no warmers and plenty life left in them .. Please keep in mind I go in the "steady" group though at Anglesey with these on the Mille I was asked to move up as there was room and I was going fast enough.. Give me great confidence but I run em like a treaded track tyre .. couple of warm up laps and then go for it !! but remember that's at my pace. Also being a good Scot I liked the price If a photo of how they look now would help gez a shout Rod.. |

If you find us in a hedge check the bike first please .. I`m free on the NHS...

I blew my gsxr up and borrowed a mates CBR600 running these. They are ok and I would say are a very long lasting (like ridiculous how long they last) and grip similar to Metz K3 or Pirelli SP not SC range
They dont give a great deal of feedback and I found they worked well at quite a low pressure. What pace do you run? a 600 wont work a tyre like a 1000 so being smooth you'd still run a decent pace. If you ride the top end of fast/advanced you might be wanting more tbh but if you are top end of inters you would be fine A Pirelli SC1/2 or Metz K1/2 would offer much better feel, more flex and better grip but wouldnt last 1/3rd as long

Thanks Mr Miller and BirkyD, after what you both said I think there's no real advantage. I really like the K2 and K1 I find them predictable and huge grip and looking at the Metezler site they rate the K1 and K2s as the superior tyre compared to Compos.
As for pace I haven't been on track for a couple decades but did 9 seasons with an ACU licence, so it will be interesting. I have never ridden a 600 either. K2 and K1 it is, thanks again for the feedback. Richard. |

You sound similar to me. My background is 20 years ACU racing moto-x but after injury I decided to start track days in 2016. I learnt quick though and figured out what worked and what was bling in the pits You will take a day or two to get back into it, but it wont take long to get a flow and you can work the 600s really hard. Given what you said and having tried them this time last year at Cadwell park I wouldnt recommend them for your potential level. Much more feedback on K1 or 2 (Im sure if there is such a graph on the Metz website it'll back this up) If you start making this a regular occurrence have a look at the Bridgestone V02. Ignore the random rear sizes - its basically a 190 but will be fine for you. The grip is excellent as is the wear rate I went to these in Spain end of last year and having seen the length I got out of mine I will never go back to treaded 'track' tyres. My only thinking behind running them at high end level is when its a control tyre. Likes of you and me are just trackday whores so get something that works better for longer Anyways enjoy!
