Hey folks,

I'm Richard, i live in Ayrshire, Scotland! Ive just taken a deposit on my current bike so looking for a nice new (used) bike :) unfortunately my buyers away on hols so looks like a week or two before he coughs up the rest, gives me time to look at what im after and find the right bike though! So I'm signed up hopefully to get some info on my next potential purchase :)

So firstly HI! :)

Secondly any tips on a gen2 rsv Factory, mods to look for and whst to run from?. I'm looking at a £4k ish budget. Hoping to be a long term bike for low miles each year. And probably do most of the servicing myself.

Hoping the values have bottomed out at the moment.

Off for a dig around the forum

Cheers

Rich

Welcome mate. There's lots of you north of the border now. Good luck with the search, 4k should get you a decent factory!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I'm just astounded at the amount of bike that you get for 4k. I had toyed with the idea of a gen 2 rsvr when new in 2007 but opted for a gsxr750 As fantastic a bike that it was its just missing a twin rumble for me :)

In honesty im between the factory, sp1 abd a duke 996. Splitting hairs or does the carbon and ohlins make a difference? ?

I like the look of the factory in the classifieds with the odd red tyres tho :)

An sp1 would be a very very safe place to put your money.

Hi Rich. An SP1 would be a great choice, they're becoming quite a classic. I had one as my first V twin, and Ive been hooked on V twins ever since. My ride now is an 05 RSV R Factory. Only had it 4 months, and I love it. Just having the swingarm renewed, as part of a re - call from 2006.So make sure it's been done, if you decide on a RSV R. Plenty of info on this forum. Good luck and welcome...

Hi folks

Cherrs for the advice, not sure I want a "very safe" option though ! The sp1 is definitely the sensible choice, although I went for the sensible choice last time and wasnt happy with the bike, ended up resenting it because it wasnt the one I really wanted.

Although I'm not sure many people will call an sp1 sensible :p

The factory definitely has the x factor, plus its the newest and lowest miles examples, with most kit. Although age isnt really a consideration.

Anyone compared any litre twins to the mille?

Rich

Hi and welcome.
I'm originally from Ayrshire too ( Saltcoats ) but now banished south of the border.
I've had a firestorm and quite a few goes on a mates SP1. Personally I found the SP1 a bit dated now. I think SP2 may be a better choice but much more in demand.
Currently ride 999 or RSVR Factory but have to admit the Ape is more fun. If it was a choice of only one of your list I'd personally go for the Factory.
You'd need to try them. But be mindful my factory handled like a dog until it was set up properly.

I tried a 996 before the RSV after years of lusting after a Ducati but it just wasn't what I expected & left me both disappointed & worried by it. The RSV was just what I expected the 996 to be.....if that makes sense! If it was an older Duc then maybe a 999, they have aged really well & now look rather special.

In my humble opinion, the factory is streets ahead of the 999. Had one for a while, didnt like it, for all sorts of reasons. There's nothing I dislike on the factory. Gonna keep mine, unless I change it for another factory.

Hi,

I was in pretty much the same position as you back on '04, traded in a great R6 for a brand new GSXR! What a dissapointment. Had it 3 months, had a tour of Scotland on it, it did everything right, and thats just it, I wanted a seat of the pants ride and got a bike that would do everything perfectly. Thats just not me.

In the end I got an old 1997 Fireblade, and wow, the difference was amazing, tank slappers, slides, it was brilliant. Just got a 2001 RSVR and this is a bit more modern, a liitle more sedate than the old blade, but still makes me smile alot as it does still excite when you pin it open.

If you want clinical I would say go for the SP1/2, if you want some fun and scary moments to make you feel alive, go for the APE, or an old fireblade LOL.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks for all that! Some of you sound as mad as a box of frogs!

Sadly I think I did love the gix 750 perfect balance of power and handling, but 5 years on the same bikes alot, and I suppose hunting for the next steps what I'm doing now. Always wanted the twin so thats what im doing now!

Loads of bleeting on by me. Bottom line is the sp has been ruled out by you guys ;) I just cant get on with the duke 999's looks. I do like tge 916/996 but they can be pricey to run. The Factory definitely seems sensible. And theres some practically brand new bikes out there for not much cash!

How do you think the factory values will go over the next few years?

That depends on whether you bin it or not lmao, and the 999 might not be everyone's cup of tea but it's a true honed racer...........can pick up a Fila for around 4k and they only made 200 of them......but plenty of dukes for 4k....S4R monster Inc.......

I've just bought an 04 factory for around the 4K mark and it's an unbelievably good bike for the money, and not a lot of depreciation to worry about.

Go for it, you won't be disappointed Smile

I used to own a 999s...not too expensive to buy now, but maintenance costs are stupid! They feel no more exciting or perform better than the factory to me as I'm just your average Jo rider...
