On the way to Silverstone on Friday. I'd done about 80 miles and pulled into the services for a leg stretch. When I came to start the bike, it started fine but the starter kept on whirring even though the motor was running. I turned the motor off and it kept on whirring for about 5 seconds and then stopped.

I started it up immediately and all good. No issues. Started fine all weekend. Any ideas?

Does sound like the solenoid, few guys on here had it where it wouldn't stop at all and they had to pull the seat quickly to stop damage.

I had the same. Thought it was the start button. Took it appart and checked/cleaned etc but it happened again about a week later. Bought the new uprated solinoid from AP and it's not happened again and that was about 18 months ago.
If its not broken then fix it until it is

Was it cranking engine when you switched it off, if not could it of been cooling fan you heard ?

It was deffo the sound of the starter motor spinning over.

As I have replaced the solenoid less than 2 years ago, Im going with a sticky starter button/kill switch and plenty of WD40.

Fingers crossed.

Ive still got my old one which I swapped out. Turned out not to be the issue with the starting - it was a bad earth, so Ive got that one to use if I need to. Thanks anyhow.
