I like the description in the ad:

Wonder where they come from?  LOL

just to add to the discussion here,
i am a class 1&2 MOT tester (mopeds & motorcycles) and can tell you all categorically that fitting non type approved lamps to a motorcycle will NOT result in a failed MOT in itself.

providing the beam pattern falls correctly, there isnt significant 'scatter' of the light emitted and the colour is significantly correct there are no other reasons for rejection on the MOT system.

the fitting of non type approved lamps may be against the construction and use regulations and as such you may find a particularly eagle eyed traffic cop or VOSA rep might slap you with a VRN (vehicle rectification notice)

that said, although i dont particularly like retrofitted HID systems due to the way they can dazzle oncoming traffic, the lens and reflector fitted to the gen1 RSV/tuono does actually react well to an HID setup - although dont fit them to the high beam lights due to the 'warm up' time it takes for HID lights to reach usable power

2001-2003 had H7's in both high and low beam m8. Earlier 1999-2000 Gen 1's were H4 dipped beam and H3 high beams.

Any issue with any extra power being drained when starting, does a hid kit draw a lot of power until after the few secconds it heats up. I have a relay fitted to my bike so when I press the start button, like jap bikes, the light cuts out, would this cause an issue with the hid kit, basically when the key is turned on it will have power but a couple of seconds later when I press the start button no power and then power again..... too much time thinking I think

The HID lamps have a life based on the number of 'starts' so yes it will have an effect but I wouldn't worry about it.

Was doing a search about uprated light output for my Gen 1 Tuono and came across this thread.
I see the HID recommended by RSV Ecosse is still available, so decided I'm going to give it a go.
Not interested in night vision because I don't night ride any more, just looking for better day visability over the standard H7.
At £16, it seems rude not too.
Did any previous posters on this thread go with these?

Same 'ere m8 - I rarely ride at night in the dark so I was after more visibility during the day too and these kits deliver that in spades. On group rides the dudes riding in front of me always comment on just how noticeable the headlight is in their mirrors. Job done. Thumbs Up

I've heard about this mod.
Does it put all 3 lights on when high beam is selected?
What is the resistor value and which terminals does it connector to?

I think I have said before but if you rely on a free service you can bet in the future you will either have to pay for it or lose it. It's just like a drug dealer, Free sample sir? Great, enjoy. Want more? OK, but now you have to pay. Have you seen the state of ebay now? Half the listings are missing vital information, sometimes the whole ad, as it was all hosted on Photobucket or other free services that can't be accessed any more.

The 'low' or dipped beam is the centre bulb and that's where the HID kit is fitted. The top two bulbs are LED's, these are the 'high' beams. And finally the little running light in the centre top is also a Cree LED. So all bulbs on my bike are either LED or HID/Xenon m8.

I've also done the diode mod as you can see. Wink

I've linked to these before, but what about one of these. For the Mille/Tuono they offer two variants, a Bi-Xenon HID main projector with twin LED's as Daytime running lights or a Bi-Xenon HID main projector with twin high power LED's for additional high beam. A little pricey but I'm sure it will be superb.

For those not sure, Bi-Xenon means that the single projector unit acts as low beam on dip and a full beam on main by altering the beam cut-off via solenoid operated shroud.

I have one of their Bi-Xenon conversion kits for my Audi A4 and it is fantastic. Well engineered with replacement projectors - reflectors and lenses - works properly and does not throw any codes or dash warnings. It simply lights up the world in front of you. Put's all those Chinese so-called kits to shame when all they really are is a bulb and a ballast.

Buy here: http://www.retrofitlab.com/en/motor-1/aprillia-mille-tuono-mh1--led-1.html

Got that, was wondering why you decided on the HID for low beam instead of a 3rd LED as per the 2 high beams. Was it brighter light, better night vision or what?

Dunno really m8. The HID was in there first, the LED high beams followed to match a bit closer the light colour of the dipped HID. Swings and roundabouts tbh.

Personally I went for HID low beam and led high beams when this thread pointed me there.

A huge step up from stock. In fact, you could say the difference was night and day... I'll get me coat..

The ballast on most kits is slimline now, so easy to cable tie somewhere. Not really much harder to fit the kit than changing a bulb.

The diodes come in packs of 5 or 10 iirc. It's the same diode for the indicator mod to run led flashers properly, should that be your cup of tea.

Question everything.

HID kit on its way. At the price will go for the high beam LEDs too.
Not too bothered about the diode mod as I'm just after daytime viz.

Mounted the ballast, blends in nicely, especially with the fairing fitted...luckily,
as it's the only place it'll fit on the Tuono.

Fired the light up first to make sure it all worked, then sorted the fairing wiring out.
