Had the exact same comments made about my Gen 2, installed these and made a hell of a difference and just a straight fit

Regarding xenon's will need a reflector lens otherwise beam pattern will be all over the place

Many deny it's needed but as you say a redesigned projector lens is a must.

Had HID Dip and mains on my gen1, amazing at night, and did the diode mod so the dip stays on with the main, after this pic obviously!!

HID dip fitted to mine as well with the diode mod.

Vast improvement over oe, the mains are like two orange puddles by comparison, but they're redundant now anyway.

Mine's also be on a beam setter and apart from being set too low was deemed fine regarding beam pattern

Have to say that LED is the future though, just bought a small flashlight that's unbelievable compared with anything else I've had with conventional lamps.

Very slightly off topic but having just bought a new front fairing and headlight they is a big gap running round the headlight and the body work. Is there an additional piece of glass that fills the shape on the nose fairing?

Kingb is it a gen1 you have as there is 2 styles of headlight and fairing, you could have a mix of both?

If you do upgrade, for the love of God please do make sure you have the correct angling/lense filter/beam pattern. On several occasions I've encountered bikes coming towards me with HID lights fitted that are all over the show and blind/disorientate oncoming traffic with a result that you can't see the kerb on your left, the white central line or anything and leaving you at risk of clipping the kerb and/or actually veering into the oncoming bike. Have had it happen in my car (which is very dangerous) but even also had it happen on my bike (which is bloody lethal!). Properly set up HID/LED kit is great though - just not worth risking your and others lives with a poorly set up kit. Which is ironic as so many bikers I've spoken to genuinely believe that the brighter you are the harder it is for other road users to miss you, so much so that some ride with main beam on all the time!

YOU CAN MAKE THE CORNER.
DO NOT SLOW DOWN.

Just remember HID's are illegal when retrofitted , so if you fail and MOT or get tugged its your lookout and like Jim's post I am fed up with folks fitted either cheap sh*tty units or fitting them incorrectly and believing they "safe" as they can be seen easier.
I'm all for improving the bikers lot but there are safer options that would get a better reception from other road users.

P.S CREE LEDS are the way forward :-)

I agree with that, no modding required or running ballasts as its internal on the model I have, they maybe expensive but are well worth it

I like the look of the Cree led's. Certainly for the main beam. I saw some advertised for the RSV on Ebay for £75 a while back.

I have not got round to headlight mods yet, but I will soon. Following this with interest!

Talking legality, anyone know if retro fitted led's are legal?

*Edit* These are the led's I saw, but they seem to have fans on that would possibly stick too far out of the back of the headlight unit?

Oh Unhappy !!

That's a shame. I'd really like to upgrade, but don't want the mot hassle and plod interest! (still a Simpson wearing yob though!) Mind you the mot place I go to might possibly be ok with it. I'll have to ask him.

Does anyone know of people getting done for it? Is it like the usual plates and pipes when getting stopped now?

I agree they should be set up properly but the OE headlight by modern standards, really dates the bike with its feeble glow!
Question everything.

I'm not convinced that rule applies to bikes? Cars yes, as they require self levelling lights to keep the beam in check.
I had mine though 3 MOT's at different places and never had an observation or otherwise.
I may be wrong, but I wouldn't make it stop you doing the mod, I can vouch that it's well worth it.

As regards the fans, I'd steer clear of them due to size, and potential failure if they stop working and overheat.
They do a mechanical heat sink, which is essentially stainless braided cable that's flexible to put in the best position.
Id go for Cree now as well due to lack of ballast units which were a royal pain to fit behind the Gen1 nose fairing.

Cheers Johnboy, interesting about the heatsink/braided cable. I like the Cree's as you say, no ballast units to mount.
