It's not a personality race so you don't have to like the winners to respect the talent. If it were Max Biaggi would never have won a race.
Whether Dovi wins a title depends on Michelin as much as anything else. It's not a coincidence that the moment the tyre construction changes that Ducati start winning races and they get 2/3 of the Ducati riders in the top 10. The other Marques will be pushing hard for another change in tyres if the pendulum has swung too far. If Ducati do well at upcoming tracks that historically they have struggled at then a potential title is on. It highlights the differing ethos at Bridgestone/Michelin or maybe that of Dorna, that Bridgestone made a tyre and no matter what you had to adapt the bike to work with it and they wouldn't budge, whereas Michelin seem to do the opposite. Largely why they went to a single make rule in the first place to avoid such a situation.

Just like someone commented in F1 about Ferrari and Pirelli when they suddenly got competitive again " It's an Italian thing" inferring the tyres were biased to work better on their countryman's cars.
Surely a tyre manufacturer wouldn't play favourites would they ? |

There is no ends to which a manufacturer will go to advance their brand if they see a gap in the rules. Wings on fairings, Gear driven cams on an Rsv4 in a production series when the production bike doesn't have them. Wings is basically why Michelin have changed the tyres because the lower down force put less heat into the tyres. It stands to reason that the manufacturer who ran the most wing is going to benefit least when wings are removed and benefit most from tyres designed for bikes that did have wings but now don't. The Bridgestone ethos was better. Here is a tyre, it won't change, make your bike work with it or go slow. Simples.

Michelin are French, if you've ever dealt with them you'd understand that there's no way they'd help Italians if there's a French team, ie Tech3. Which would then have a knock on effect to the Yamaha Factory team. I feel Ducati have improved due to Paolo Ciabatti, Davide Tardozzi and Gigi Dall'lgna, especially Gigi who said it would take a couple of years from his joining to get to a winning level.

It's not a conspiracy theory or anything like that, just a change that was designed to help bikes post wing removal that has favoured some more than others in quite a big way. Cal Crutchlow eluded to it tongue in cheek at Mugello after qualifying when he said "Dorna want a Ducati win here" Temps also played a large part in the Barcelona result where the rear was the issue for most riders so that is a different story. Michelin can also only supply sanctioned tyres so unless Dorna are complicit they cannot favour anyone. The current tyre was sanctioned after a rider majority vote post Jerez test. The Bridgestone idea of starting a year and finishing a year on a tyre seems a flatter playing field to me. If you make changes mid way there are always going to be winners and losers. |

There is also the fact Ducati have the track as one of their test tracks and have done rather a lot of miles there in all conditions.
