    Posted: 25 Apr 2013 at 19:02
Hi All, just went out to put my tax disc in....as found these marks on the back of the fork tubes, pic 1 shows the black coating gone and the metal underneath almost powdery?

I have no idea what caused this or how serious it is, there is a similar prob on the other leg.

What do you reckon, I am at a loss.

Confused

I would clean it up, sand it back to bare metal, apply krust to change the chemical reaction and stop the rust and then use some hamerite..

Acf would be good for now :)

Cheers boys, ACF50 it is and I have now removed the Aprilia fitted tax disc holder that caused the issue......

Reckon the 3 hour ride caused the fork oil to heat up and move around a bit more than normal.....

So preload up a notch....

My forks are the same. It seems to be some sort of weathering effect caused by the mud guard directing crap to the fork legs. I've seen how much forks flex under braking so I'm not taking any chances. New pair for me.)

New forks due to some surface corrosion? really!!!
clean it off and paint.
Tax disc holders look sh*t anyway. Mine is under my rear seat hump with the tool kit.

I'll have to take a pic of mine, show you how bad it is.  To call it surface rust would be wrong....
