Went into local bike shop last month and the salesman told me that Mille values are dropping ?? He offered me £3200 trade in, and mine is a tidy excample, 02 standard Mille 5k, uk bike etc etc. So i stuck it in bike trader for a shade over £4000. Not a call, and mine was the cheepest 02!! So is he right ?? Anyone.
Cheers.

Ive heard that recently too, yeah.
But for the life of me, I cant fathom it out.
Mille's move fast out of dealer showrooms. The place I bought 2000.5 2 years ago, recently had a couple in stock. One the same age as mine, and a 02 RSV-R. They were advertised in the Autotrader on the Friday in his shop ad.
Just out of interest, I went out for a run on the bike on the following Monday and nipped into his showroom.
Both bikes, although still there, were sold on the Saturday afternoon.
Just look at the prices in adverts in MCN on a Wednesday.
I'm convinced some RSV owners are either daft or just dont know what their bikes are worth. The variation in prices for similar models goes up and down quicker than a prossies knickers. In one column in MCN bikemart, you can see two bikes of almost identical spec and age/mileage, yet with sometimes, around £1000 of a difference in price!!!???
Maybe its just dealers talking bollox, and the more people hear it, the more it starts to sound true!!
My local Aprilia dealer, Jim Allan Motorcycles, has a 02 RSV-R for sale at £5995!!!
They sound like they are quick to spin you some yarn about used prices falling, but its an entirely different story when it comes time to put sticker prices on 'em in the showroom.
Should be wearing bloody masks, some of 'em!!! [:p]

I was looking at another bike the other day and the salesman (who i know personally) told me that my bike would be worth between £3000 to £3500 max depending on what i traded it in for. It is an 02 RSV with 14000 miles on the clock. i paid £4900 for it 16 months ago from the same shop. for that sort of money i will keep it a bit longer!
i have also seen them advertised in private sales for more but what is hard to determine is at what price have they sold, if at all.[:0]

Its not a sellers market at the moment right across the board. I think big Vee's just arent trendy in a pop sort of way so prices are affected more.

I bought my '02 RSV in June with 5k on the clock for £4.25k private. I've now put another 9k miles on it - I bought it to ride and keep it so I'm not bothered about resale, myself. Recently though I had noticed that some prices were creeping down and that there were major discrepancies in the same machine spec being sold for widly varying prices. I'd read about this in a small article in Bike or Ride or something. I reckon the 'apparant' downward trend on price of the old shape RSV is because more new shapes are coming up for sale. Having said that I was at a small dealers (he had a small business, he wasn't 3'6") on Saturday and he had a VGC '03 RSV with 6k for £4000 - that obviously included his mark-up over what he paid. I guess you're right it being a buyers market[?]

Tbh, and this is no bull****, If someone came to me and said "Gimme yer RSV and I'll give ye this brand new ZX-10R".......I'd probably politely refuse.
I'd miss the big twin too much.
Not interested in inline 4's at all now. My next step would either be a Factory or if I was tempted enough, I might step over to the darkside and go for a 999.
That said, there's always the Agusta MV1000........choices, choices....!!!

Right with you there Mr Ecosse ! Can't imagine myself going back to a Jap 4 now. Just come back from a 750 mile two days trip to Campbletown with my bro-in-law. He was riding his tuned ZX12R. We swapped bikes for around 50 miles and, as fast and capable as the big 12 is, it just didn't do it for me. Turbine smooth and bloody devasting in a straight line, but not a living, breathing thing like the Mille. He had some nice things to say about the Mille tho, how tractable it is and how well it handles and turns. He even got around to talking in terms of getting a Mille as a track bike! He was also complimentary about my riding (a rare event) saying how much more confident I am on the Mille than on my ZX9R C1, carrying far more corner speed and being much more confident on the way into corners. Now don't be telling him its the bike not me ......! I am in envious mood of the roads you have up there mate, I enjoyed myself more in two days on those twisty grippy bendy bits than in two months riding around here ! [^]

BTW, on the original topic, resale values are poor at the moment. The unenlightened are being seduced by all that horsepower stacked up in the high end of the range where no-one goes on a regular basis. The new Jap 1000s are utterly awesome performance wise, weigh less than a packet of fag papers and are attracting lots of buyers. Can't blame them - you get a lot for your wonga. But I can't use all that screaming top endy power anymore, I'm just not good enough or brave enough to exploit it on the roads. Give me a bike that talks to me, breathes with me, is big enough to be comfortable all day long and gives me drive and ample power at revs that don't threaten to tingle my nuts off. Give me a Mille anyday. I don't care about the resale value cos my RSVR ain't goin anywhere. And I only paid £3900 for an immaculate 6k mile example - the poor resale value has been very good to me !

After owning countless 4 cylinder machines I dont think i would go back from a v twin they may have their faults but thats part of their character and after having a bit of a run in with a new gixer k5 I will be sticking to the factory it was a great feeling taking the guy on the outside from my mates gps system who was trying to follow corner speed was well into three figures tee hee !!!
