Right then, I've traded the RSVr for an RST Futura, but there's a problem with the clocks... does anyone have a set to get rid of? Anyone wanna lend me their clocks? |

Yeah new ones are scary money I reckon, £400 ish. Thanks Tash but Griff's right, the RST dash looks like somethin captain Kirk is used to driving! Everything works on mine except for the speedo. Changed the speed sensor but that did no good. I know a thing or 2 about electronics so will have a go at fixing them, but I had to cut the needles off to get to the clocks apart so they're never gonna be good as new! Didn't get chance for a proper look though as I had to bring the wife away for the weekend. Actually I should get back to that... |

Right, I've had a good look at the clocks and all is not lost.
I've traced the path of the speed sensor signal inside the clocks and stuck a sig gen onto the input pin of the processor, and the speedo needle reacts nicely. So, it's gotta be either a problem with whatever the speed sensor picks up on in the hub, or the basic amplifier circuit it goes through before it gets to the processor.
So does anyone (Griff, I'm looking at you!) know what the speed sensor picks up on inside the hub? It's gotta be a something steel or magnetic.
Also, there's a 2-pin inline connector for the speed sensor. On the clock side of the connector one pin is ground, can anyone tell me what the voltage on the other pin is (ignition on)? There's a prize in it for ya!

esy to get from here then dude!
the wheel speed sensore picks up of the inner wheel bearing on the inside of the hub, so..... you got options ..... get an oscillascope and check the hall singnal comning from the wheel speed sensor at the clocks block connector, you should have a good solid square sign wave coming from the sensor or Get a led tester and do the same , watch the siganl switch the led at the block connector!! if no signal wheel speed sensor loom if you get an signal from the loom and no clock movement the amp in the clocks buggered...i'll dig that address out for ya!! p.s sorry if this is teaching granny to suck eggs but please remeber the wheel speed sensor is a hall effect type so no continuity testing it will blow the sensor ..sorry dude i know this is your chosed field but i gotta say...i knoe that you know that i know...etc griff |

No worries mate, all advice gratefully accepted!
I've had a scope on the input signal and the amp output before and seen nothing - that was with the rear wheel turning. Last night I measured the same points again, but removed the sensor from the hub and ran a steel tool past it instead. I got a nice pulse at both points, and the output levels at the amp are spot on for the CMOS logic the controller is expecting.
So I reckon that's all of the electronics tested end-to-end. Is there any way to adjust the air gap between sensor and bearing? I'm getting towards looking inside the hub, and as far as I'm concerned single sided swingarms are voodoo whichcraft. How does the wheel even stay on there?!!
Does one of you admin types wanna move this thread? It's turned technical now rather than a 'want'!

Cheers Flipspeed; I reckon the problem must be somewhere on the mechanical side so I'm gonna get Griff to pull the hub apart for me. Were you thinking of some kinda P/X?
