Nope.
I had this convo with Griff for a friend as I had heard negative things about them. He said give them a big swerve. The 750 version being the worst of them. If you have to have one get the bigger motor.

I got a new 750 quite a few years ago not long after they came out and loved it. Still felt like a "supermoto" as it didn`t feel too big and heavy and performance was a lot, lot better than the KTM 640 which it replaced. Only problem I had and why I got rid of it after only a year or so was that it didn`t like to start on cold mornings and it was my transport to/from work.

One of the more common failings I read about was water ingress into the ecu. Causes starting issues from moisture causing grounding of pins until it eventually kills the ecu altogether. You might have had a lucky escape.

Yeah, I didn`t have it long enough to see any longer term issues. My problem seemed more like battery related. They put a new one on under warranty (allegedly) but it didn`t make much difference. If it didn`t catch on the first few turns there wasn`t enough left to start it, especially in winter anyway, and it was another call to the breakdown service. Not what I wanted at work at 7 in the morning after a night shift, but, when it was going it was great.

I bet he is still sitting there now hoping it will start! That would just do your head in, maybe some of Johnboys leads would do the trick? An engine should just start for god's sake.

Oh yes... Except my battery never lasted for that many tries.

KTM's 640 DukeII is the lightweight alternative, tough as old boots, reliable, easy to tune, economical and for a big single, really hustles. Had one for years and loved it. Handled like a champ and wheelied hilariously in the first few gears. Would outhandle any sportsbike in tight twisty B-roads with the superb White Power suspension too. A right pig to kick over of the battery is left to go flat though and really uncomfortable for anything over 40 miles but a real hoot to ride for a weekend or evening blast. Cheap to pick up a good used example and cheap to run and insure. That would be my first choice for a genuine supermotard on a budget.
