.........another one of these:

2004 Aprilia Caponord Rally Raid.

Limited run of just 400 produced worldwide and only 20 brought to the UK.  I had one that I brought in from the Republic of Ireland in 2011 and then let go on a whim in 2014 when Caterhams sort of took over my world and bikes took a back seat.

There are only 17 left in the UK so I thought I'd probably not find one again but a post on AF1 asking for one brought a couple of people out of the woodwork.  Teh first guy, in Wales, changed his mind but a guy about an hour from me got in touch and a deal was swiftly done.  Deposit paid and collection in the next week.

It's well used and is going to need some refurbishment but that's all part of the fun isn't it?

This and the Tuono build should keep me busy during lockdown, and beyond perhaps!  These two are the start of a longer term plan to end up wtih all of the Aprilias I've owned previously.

Next will be either of a 2000 RSV-R or a 2006 SXV550 ;-)

Raced an SXV for 3 seasons back in the day................high maintenance, no doubt but like anything if they're looked after properly.

Mine had an engine rebuild during that time but it was always designed as a race bike so I expected that.  Awesome bike though and I will have another!

There was an SXV on ebay a few months ago, championship winner I think they said., don't know if it sold as a very limited market I would have thought. Expensive mind!

I think the scariest thing with SXV’s was the crankcases were joined with sealant not gaskets and it was a ticking time bomb before the sealant failed. Whether they improved that over its production I’m not sure.

Lovely looking bike though, one of the last nice looking bikes Aprilia made to my eyes.

Didn't the original RSVR.net guys build a road racer using one as a base? or was that the smaller one 450?

Early bikes were terrible, later ones only slightly better.

I had mine rebuilt and had the crankcases macined to take and o-ring that helped, but never solved, the crankcase sealing problem.  I'd still have another.

Perfect bike for a wet track day around Cadwell Park.  I embarassed many a sports bike rider in the wet around there in my time ;-)
