quote:REAR WHEEL PIN NUT (AXLE NUT) TORQUE SPEC. 120Nm According to the Haynes manual, the torque setting specified by Aprilia (120Nm) is too high. Quote: "there have been a significant number of rear wheel bearing failures the cause of which has been identified as an overtight axle nut" - page 7.13 Haynes Service and Repair Manual Aprilia RSV1000 Mille 98-03. 2005 Edition. Haynes specify a torque setting of 90-100Nm. I believe I am currently experiencing rear wheel bearing failure, yet to be confirmed but see posts in Tech Chat, as a result of over-torquing. Hope this comment is helpful, [:)] Late '99 RSV Mille Tri-Colour. Completely stock, but un-restricted - I love my Italian mistress! |

I read this the other day in the Haynes manual and was going to ask everyone on here then today I spotted this post from 2007.
Anyone have any knowledge or experience of the accuracy of this or problems encountered? |

I didn't like the number, seemed excessively high....I've been using 100 for years now. My thinking was during my touring days I'd like to be able to adjust it with a standard sized rachet. And was worried about stripping threads.

Cheers guys, I think I'll go with 100 per Haynes given people have used this with no problem. The reports must have come from somewhere.
