Hi all can anyone tell me if the gen 1 has a lower seat height than the gen 2 2004, I have just bought a gen 2 and its just too tall, I have tried every thing but loosing height means losing suspension range,
so have to sell her and poss go for a gen 1, Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Phill

I don't know the exact measurements but if anything I find my friends gen2 mille more or less the same, if anything a little lower, than my gen1 tuono. The mille and tuono are a tall enough bike , my brothers 04 z1000 is like swinging a leg over a cb 400 from being used to the tuono

The RSV, especially the Gen1 was always known as a bike for tall riders so I'm guessing you might not find it better switching. How tall are you?

Don't know the figures but I haven't noticed much difference between my Mille and gen 2 Tuono
I have a spare seat for my track Mille which I cut down and reshaped the foam to lower it and get rid of some of the forward slope. This didn't make much appreciable difference to touching the ground but strangely did seem to really alter the knees bent attitude to the AP rearsets which are set up for for max height and rearwards. |

What I meant was that they suited tall riders better than a lot of bikes at the time (And even more so since then) due their overall height and reasonable roominess ergonomically. Of course that didn't mean shorter riders couldn't get on with them. |

You have the height adjuster on the shock at it's lowest setting and the forks through the yokes the same amount?
If you like the bike, you can get lowering links for the back, better that than not having the bike you want. |

Question everything.

he bought a bike without any research despite him being a short arse ! When he is given alternative he sulks like a millenial lol. Here is another alternative.... Why is Britain stuffed with 'gaylords' now ? He will have to write to the daily monarchy to complain about his rights being wronged lol.... |

Ouch
Although I do find it strange that this kind of thing could happen, but surely there are ways and means? Were there not a few females of shorter stature ( doing my bit for political correctness here,I mean birds with short legs) on the forum at one time? |

I'm 5' 10" with a 31" inseam.
Feet down a a GenII Tuono is fairly easy.I've never felt the bike is too tall. In their favour, they weigh bugger all to begin with, and carry their weight brilliantly, with a nice natural CoG. Unlike some of the top heavy stuff you come across these days. |

If you go with the lowering links, (which I never have I hasten to add) there are some to avoid as poorly designed. Do NOT get adjustable ones.
Lust Racing ones had a good rep iirc. They lower the bike by 40mm and are supposedly well made. You would need to adjust the front the same to suit, or you will affect handling -altering one without the other. You will probably need to shorten the side stand I would think, don't know. I'm 5'7 or 5'8, I can't remember, I think I may be shrinking with back surgery ha ha. I do find the bike tallish but ok. But my problem is that I can only use one leg to support the weight of the bike, because the other's knackered, so it complicates it a bit. I've gotten used to looking ahead when stopping to make sure I'm not putting my leg into a dip or pot hole. That would be a bit embarrassing. My message to you would be try the shock at the lowest setting height wise (if you haven't already). If that's not enough, try the Lust lowering links. If that fails, put back to standard and sell it. Be a shame to miss out on riding a great bike though. |
