So here we go, next season prep is officially underway for 2017!

Following on from my singular effort in Iron Maidens endurance team, there are some changes for 2017. Creating a new team with team mate Caroline Christmas on her GSXR 750, I will also be joined by my partner James Wiggins on his new bike, a 2004 factory. The formal team is myself, James and Caroline; joining us for the longer races (3hr plus) is Dale Fordham on his ZX10R, Dale is a previous National license holder and mechanic for various road racers both at the TT, Macau and throughout Ireland - dream team!

For the time being James's bike is standard but as I type this both bikes are currently loaded in the van along with various new shiny bits, waiting to be dropped off to Griff. In 2017 we will be fully supported by Griff and the team at AP who will be making sure the bikes are running to their full potential, so that we can focus on ours diets LOL

We'll be giving away tickets and pit passes throughout the season to get as many of you involved as possible, here's some dates -
Cadwell Park - 11th - 12th March
Silverstone Int - 24th - 26th March
Brands Hatch Indy - 21st - 23rd April
Donington Park GP - 20th - 21st May
Donington Park GP - 29th July
Cadwell Park - 11th - 13th August
Snetterton 300 - 1st - 3rd September
Croft - 22nd - 24th September
Donington Park National - 7th - 8th October

For now the bikes look like this......

Of all the tracks I was looking forward to the most it was Oulton, after hearing that it was 'like Cadwell on Steroids' but theres no endurance round there this year, only sprints :( I would love to spend a weekend on track there at some point just for fun and to home in some skills - i'll give you a shout if we do Smile

Good luck to you and the team, Michaela. I'll try and get to support at a couplke of rounds. It might be a struggle though, as mi daughters boyfriend is going racing next season, on a CB500, but hopefully they'll not clash.

Thank you! I really must start using my gopro again but its a pain for racing as they have to be lockwired in about ten different places! I'll see if I can dig it out for a few test days Smile

So Silverstone International was a huge success! Race report is below, biggest difference to the gen1 compared to last year was I had race sintered pads this year instead of the brembo road ones (schoolgirl error for my first race!)

James did amazingly well considering he only had a day at cadwell and test day at Silverstone on a new bike, infact both bikes were chasing down much lighter 600's and indeed more powerful 1000's - granted with rider who were scared to pin it round the bends on them!

Test Day & Race Report - Silverstone International

So it begins the first race of our 2017, we were spoilt with the weather which was a cool 13degrees for both test day and race day - still very cold though!
Test day wasn't without problems, Caroline noticed a slight oil leak at lunchtime and spent the afternoon sourcing a new gasket and then eventually collecting and fitting it in the afternoon. Mikaela dropped her bike on the slippery garage floor and as a result bent a

rearset and gear changer and then lost first and second gear in the next session - still six seconds quicker than 2016 though with a 1.19! James's test day was relatively trouble free, it was his first time round the track and only his second day on a new bike, clocking a brilliant 1.18.
So race day began with the qualifying starting late, we actually accidentally sent Caroline out in the club1000 qualifying session but shhhssss....... it helped her get a new PB though!
Caroline was out first, Mikaela second and James third, qualifying in total 30/35 on the grid and a place behind James Hillier on a very cool V4 750cc 👌🏻
The start of the race got off to a bad start with James having phantom overheating problems with his bike, it wouldn't start so we were second from last getting away, he soon picked up the pace and got us into 30th place though. Mikaela out next with some engine issues too but delivering constant 1.20's. A quick changeover for Caroline saw that her bike was back up and running and performing well, heading into James's second session we were now in 32nd place.
Second session for James was a gruelling 40 minutes where his new PB was a 1.17.11, swiftly followed by running out of fuel, next up was Mikaela for 35 minutes and a new PB 1.19.3 and finally Caroline heading out in very difficult conditions with the setting sun causing some issues with visibility.
Overall we finished 31 out of 35 teams - massive improvements all round and a brilliant team atmosphere with various visitors spending time with us in the garage, including Rob Ryan at 24B photography - thank you for the brilliant photos!
Also a massive massive thank you to David Cowley for helping out on pit wall and Dale & Marc Pepper at DRF Services for helping with the team mechanics and changeovers!
Huge thank you to team sponsors Huey Brakelines, R&G Racing & GB Racing. Mikaela & James individual sponsors Aprilia Performance in Tamworth & Simon Smith at Freeborn Motor Company.

I'll post a few of our pictures :)

Our race report from round two at Brands Hatch Indy! James and I finished this round by ourselves after our team mate crashed out on their outlap - even though we qualified back of the grid we came 27/36 - read all about it! Pics to follow!

RACE REPORT - Brands Hatch - Round 2
Well when we called ourselves Troopers - how right were we!
Test day was mixed successes, Caroline first time on metzelers which self confessed wasn't brilliant, after saving a highside onto the start/finish straight she swapped back to her usual supercorsa after lunch and it was back to normality.
James Wiggins had a brand new set of tyres on and at lunchtime he suffered from quite a substantial tear round the right side, it was debatable whether the tyre would even last for the race at this rate. Suspension help and adjustment came from sponsor Griff Woolley at Aprilia Performance with an early morning call from him whilst he was on holiday in America - what a guy!
Mikaela's test day was upright and trouble free, plenty of back end spinning which was the same as last year - just keeping the bike in control was a bonus!
Race Day & Qualifying
Moral of the story? NEVER trust the weather man..... James and I didn't bring our wets, a lesson learned there! Both of us decided to stay in and miss qualifying but went and purchased a set of wets from NL in the meantime. Caroline chucked on her wets and braved the weather though despite multiple crashes from other riders - trooper!
As james and Mikaela missed qualifying it meant the team started from the back in the grid but the main thing was we were intact after choosing not to risk running on SC's.
Race start - what a performance from James, after the first hour we were up into 25th until the disaster crash which bought the event to a red flag and a standstill whilst riders were collected from the track and one was airlifted (we hope you're doing ok Spencer!)
James went out again but soon as the race was underway we changed over to Caroline who unfortunately took quite a tumble when she suffered from a high side on Graham Hill - the main thing was she was up on her feet and doing ok.
Marc Pepper - our trusty pit crew member Usain Bolted down to retrieve the transponder, what a guy!
Mikaela out next, dodging bikes left right and centre as during her 35 minute session there were two code80's and multiple yellow flagged, it's really wasn't anyone's race at this point!
James went out for the final five minutes before the race was red flagged and bought to a close - total nightmare!
By the end we had finished 29th, however due to some rider penalties and exclusions we were bumped to 27th - a big success after a total nightmare.
We have so many people to thank for this weekend, such a brilliant atmosphere in the garage was bought by friends and family.
Dale Fordham from DRF Services, Marc Pepper as our seasoned pit crew member, team sponsors Huey Brakelines, our Club80 members, GB Racing and R&G Crash Protection. Rob Ryan from 24b Automotive Photography, Dunk Rose from DR Photography plus many individual helpers and sponsors who I'm sure each team member will thank individually.
Troopers, True Team Spirit 👊🏻
