The fuel tank..... LOL
Have the bike over 7 years now, have always left fuel in the tank while its parked up for the couple of winter months, never any problem getting the fuel tank back down, just the usual little shimmey thats needed with the tuono to get it down past the bar clamps. This year, just to be a real good boy I have been using miller VSPe as it combats the effects of ethanol in the fuel, supposedly . I just started using it mainly due to the horror stories about tanks warping, confirmed as safe to use on modern fuel injected engines by the manufacturer, all of which ran fine in the bike so thats all grand anyway, then to be extra safe I completely drained the fuel from the tank while it was parked up over the last few months. Went to the bike today and lifted the tank to check something, when putting it back down had to give it a hefty push back to get it to drop down below the top yoke.

Then of course the holes for the bolts were way out, I ended up taking off the bracket at the back of the tank and making the holes a little bit bigger to give me the few mm needed to get the bolts at the front back on, I also checked that the tank was back as far as possible with the bolt it hinges on as well. There are no leaks or anything but I am not happy to see it has expanded like that, and no fuel in the tank when it did ???

Yeah, might end up doing that now as well, it's just U was always able to work away with just taking out the two front ones, more curious than anything else as to why it happened with no fuel in the tank.

I guess it's like brake fluid, perhaps it's absorbed moisture from the atmosphere?

Nylon66 is like a sponge where water's concerned.

I've had my tank emptied and next to a radiator since Oct then I gave it a good going over with a hot air gun to try and dry it out.

Elongating the holes in the rear mounting is only good up to a point, especially if you use an evo airbox as the tank centralises on the airbox.

Hi, the ethanol is worse than the brake fluid, and combined with our type of tank .. well we`ve all
seen the results and some suffered them. Once you get the tank back to something like it`s
original size ( over winter in the airing cupboard for mine in 2014) keep it full if being left for any
length of time and try and find E0 petrol if it still around. I read the following report but at my
age probably missed half of it wondering if I`d had my dinner .. See what you think Question

If you find us in a hedge check the bike first please .. I`m free on the NHS...

Very interesting find Clap

I've seen the last part regarding ethanol content in different brands of fuel on quite a few web sites but never the whole article.

Certainly makes you think, especially when you realise how inefficient the average internal combustion engine is anyway.

Now would seem to the ideal time to revisit the 2 stroke with it's power stroke every cycle?

Unfortunately E0 petrol or super unleaded, whatever you want to call it is not available in the Republic of Ireland with a good few years now, just the normal unleaded with the ethanol is all you can get. I'm going to continue using this http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automotive.asp?prodsegmentID=1031§or=Classics.
Always kept the tank full when parked up except for this year, won't make that mistake again.

I read that TR article a couple of years ago (Even think I posted it on here). The problem is that while the content still has some validity, it is at least 3 or 4 years old. The main thing that has changed is the some if not all 'super' unleaded now has some Ethanol. I've asked the question a few times of fuel companies and all you get back is the political answer that it contains up to 10% as required by fuel regulations. Need to find a way to make them be more specific.

I believe there should be a 0% ethanol fuel available to those who want it albeit at a probably higher price to prevent the sort of issues we (And those discussed in the article) encounter. At least that way we have a choice.

Well up for that, with all the fancy metals and oils could make them almost bullet proof and run
on pure ethanol, that would shut the green brigade up, and with electronics nowadays could
make the throttle less like a switch on an ejector seat. Bet it would be possible to get a
HP per CC out of one Evil Smile . Still no use dreaming, the EU will have banned it already !!! Dead
