Probably very late to the party on this one, but having done a bit of research I ordered a side stand from the USA for my gen 2. I'd read about the fire blade stand but the consensus was the US stand was the best solution.
The US one is so much better, actually works like it should! Why on earth did the Yankees get a proper one and EU bikes not?? The bracket is beefier, it sticks the stand out at an angle instead of practically vertical under the bike; the stand itself is also much more substantial. I won't be terrified about parking it anywhere from now on! |

So much better aren't they?
The US regs state that the stand must support bike, rider and pillion. |

Question everything.

I see people spending sometimes £90+ on stands. I take it the Chinese ebay jobbies aren't up to it? They're adjustable in 10mm steps and apparently can take up to 500kg. It seems like a good idea to me. Considering the amount of rear ride height or sag setup can make the difference between a safe and precarious stand. Or is it that it's a bit tacky sticking generic gear on an Italian bike? |

Wouldn't fancy one of them I actually bought a later 'blade stand complete,as it was virtually new, complete with switch and harness even though I knew it wasn't compatible with our bikes. I thought if I made a custom bracket it might work. Anyway I did fit it temporarily and being a lightweight alloy casting (albeit fine for a 'blade) it flexed like a bugger with the weight of a Mille on it. In a gentle breeze the bike was wafting around so much I thought the stand would snap My experiment ended very quickly, a blade must carry it's weight a lot differently to an Ape

Yes the original bracket is a lightweight cast piece, the us bracket is a piece of steel about 8mm thick, I'm glad I went for it. Its certainly not a cheap solution, but I'm thinking it's the only solution that actually works

There are several alternatives but I think the US stand is by far the best option Even down to the 3 bolt bracket which is a really substantial piece of plate unlike the the 2 bolt euro offering

A US spec one? Try typing in kickstand in along with the bike you are searching for on eBay. eBay.com may also offer more than .co.uk

I got mine off ebay, like Wiggins said search for kickstand. Theres one on there now which is cheap, but the peg to push it down has broken off. Youd have to check it's the right one too as the years and descriptions can be a bit shaky. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123791552117
I paid about 80 quid but believe me, it's worth every penny

That's a Gen1 stand, it might fit but the proper Gen2 ones are different. Most of the ones from the US seem to have the peg missing, the one I got did. God knows what they do with them! The other thing to remember if buying from the states is that you will pay VAT and import duty on the total price paid (Including shipping) - about 30% all in. That's also why any you see for sale in the UK are expensive as that has been paid at some point and is factored in. |
