Holy smokes...
Well should not stop there, he should have gone a bit further and pulled all the way over. Or just kept going. Me thinks anyway.

Not sure who's actually in the wrong tbh,but for the record Hazel ( Mum) is a very experienced club racer and trackday instructor so I would say she knows track etiquette better than most. Now I don't run in the fast group so I'm not sure but it looked to me that the following riders were still pushing hard on the final lap and I've also been been labouring under the impression briefings usually say no overtaking and back off to 75/80% on the final lap. They also explicitly say ' The onus is on the following rider to keep everyone safe' So as far as I can make things out some blame on both parties,it wasn't a race it was the closing lap of a trackday session,no prizes for overtaking or going for a fast lap. Say's the muppet who did overtake several on the final lap once just before that same corner and then binned it at Coppice by carrying too much speed. In my defence I hadn't noticed the chequered flag in my excitement

Many decades since I was on a racetrack with a motorcycle, but slowing drastically on the racing line exiting a corner next to another rider with a mechanical problem, and (presumably) knowing there's someone behind...no, just no.

It seems like that Lea Castle attracts people stopping on track in front of him |

The guy who slowed down should have indicated but the guy behind was going too fast anyway and should have been aware enough to take avoiding action. As I see it they were all d**k heads. They all went though yellows, past
a chequered flag and then past another bike in the gravel and not one
of them seemed to slow down at all. They aren't on the last lap of a session, they
are on an in lap and that is for slowing down in readiness to come in
not to get that last fast lap in. That's why I maintain that trackdays are far more dangerous than racing. |

And people say track days are safer than riding on the road, looks like there's t**sers every by the looks of it . It's dangerous everywhere by the looks where humans are participating ?

Nasty
Read some of the comments under the vid on you tube and lots of differing opinions on how you should ride after the chequered flag. Personally I’ve always ridden at around 80% of what I thought I was doing but being vigilant as best you can. Certainly not looking to overtake. If I’ve ever had a bike issue I’ve tried best to get off the racing line but there things will always happen. I’d certainly not suggest slowing to do a welfare check in the manner carried out when they were clearly well bar the breaking down part. Luckily no one was seriously injured. All riders making errors , a combination of things came together badly.

Well summed up The only safe thing about track days are that everything is nominally going the same direction and there aren't any side turnings. Other than than it's bl**dy dangerous Novice is dangerous due to the different skill????? levels as you have no idea where people will go next Inters to my mind is the most dangerous group of all. Apart from the genuine riders,I find inters usually peppered by inflated ego's and some people group riding that would be better suited in the novices, but that want to try and keep up with their much faster mates. Fast/advanced are generally seen to be safest as by then they are competent and fast enough to do their own thing in safety. Although as that vid showed that isn't always the case Most danger comes when people from the upper groups drop down for whatever reason,I know a few fast riders that always ride Novice and then boast that no one can touch them on track. Silly and dangerous in my opinion, but that's their personality coming through Anyway,as Dr Hazel Dury who was hit is one of our local Medical Centre GP's (although not mine) I might one day get her thoughts. Careful out there chaps |

Good to hear what Hazel says about it if you do approach her.
Always several sides to these things and hopefully all have got over the accident and are able to talk or smile and learn from it all. Got a good set of photos of me being knocked off by a faster guy who was out braking me and on his way past clipped my left bar and wrapped me around his rear wheel. Went and found him after to see if he was okay and have a chat/laugh about it |

It would be interesting for sure. I've not seen her on track for years though as I believe she retired from racing and instructing, last time I spoke to her was the Hottrax Endurance series round at Anglesey years ago when I went along to support one of my mates who was also competing. She should have known better I suppose but then the onus is still on following riders to be aware and to my mind they should have knocked the pace down considerably from what they were doing. Not that I'm any sort of expert and I certainly don't circulate at those elevated speeds |

All good points mate
Unless you’re the one on the bike or bikes at the time it’s hard to call it. With luck they are all cool with it and one another after, as we all love bikes and riding and getting upset further once the dust has settled really isn’t worth your own upset as much as anything. |

I prefer like at Cadwell where they just wave the flag at Mansfield. Then you're just easing off for a few corners. Both times I've been to Spain they've just waved the red flag when it's time to come in. But they tell you to continue at full pace rather than slow down. I didn't like this because although most red flags are the end of the session, there could also be a genuine reason for one. Feels wrong pushing on past red flags.

I agree that showing the flag a corner or two before the circuit exit is the most sensible way of ending the session just like Cadwell do.....speaking of which I'm there in 4 weeks and counting 😁🤟

Not good , as said track riding is very dangerous and should be seen as such. Think it was snowman who nailed it. If humans are involved anything can happen. Im of the opinion that the blame is spread pretty evenly between the two involved but regardless of that at least no one was seriously injured. Road riding has very different dangers but equally the unexpected can happen at any time.
