Been looking at wheels for a little while & was going to go cast gen2/v4 but currently they were outta the funds reach.
But I just happen to fall on a set of brembo wheels that I just couldn't pass up for the price

I'll be honest once you have all the parts to swap over in the same place it's a piece of cake.
Having the engines side by side I could compare where & how much needed removing

Crank was already locked
I secured cams to chain & removed
Blocked/covered as much as possible
Then basically the piece to remove vertical cut either side then horizontal to then remove the piece.
Dremel, hacksaw blade & drill in my case
I cleaned out everything, hoover, brush, compressed air.
Then pulled the buckets & cleaned them down for piece of mind too

Cheers Chris , exactly what I was thinking, sounds like a plan .

I have a Falco with a dead motor with the parts on to swap over to the gen2

Another 4 hours on loom today,
Put a set of bars on & the switch gears to check the run & to match up to the loom
More cable threaded to the front
Shortening the whole middle of loom by 3in,
Custom branch off loom made for left & right switchgear.
Who's idea was this 🤦🏻‍♂️

The spaghetti of wires is dissappearing though 😂

I'll only have a little more I can do before the engine will need installed to work out any more custom parts of loom or Shortening.

I've pulled the air sensor for the gen2 out to see if I can get the gen1 there in its place, touch of modifying/fabrication & will be in the O.e spot

Another few hours cracking on today.

Installed the engine so I can finish the loom.

Gen1 air sensor now screwed into the original gen2 spot.
Shortened the water temp sensor wiring on right side
Wrapped the new switchgear branch off loom with the clutch switch
1/2 way through sorting the cabling run for reg/Rec relocation
Oil sensor wire run in right place.

Little bit left on engine loom/plugs then finish off the front part

You're really cracking on with it Chris top effort. Had many issues or is it going as you planned?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

Cheers chief,

Tbh, it was a little of the unknown but having a methodical approach with the loom & matching sections at a time was a must.

Think the most pain in the ass was the 2 exhaust studs I had to sort.

But all going well, the test will be hooking the battery up and checking then

Been a few weeks since I added to this, as went back to work on the 4th.

Spent some time completing all the mid loom.
Made a new bespoke run for the fans
Finished all down where the reg goes till bracket arrives
Wrapped all the centre
Added the reg mod as only 2 extra wires to add on

I've got a gen2 loom now which I've stripped the headlight wiring out of, so that'll be next port ot call

Not updated this for a while.

I had got within touching distande with the custom loom where i was at the stage to test a few bits out.
I hooked uo the battery, flipped the ignition and greeted with no dash.
Gutted....
Spent the next few days going over as much as i coukd bearing in mind how much i had stripped & modified from o.e.
I bridged the switch 12v to get power, it then was apparent there was couple of other niggles.

So,
I bit the bullet, bought another gen1 loom sat just gone & started the process again, changing a couple of bits from my original plan. Connecting everything in line as o.e rather than some of adjustments i had done 1st time round.
Today i was at the stage to test out the work, battery on.
BINGO, we have dash power, hear the back cycling, press the starter button & get response from that, horn check.
I still had to wire in the headlights which is complete now & my full custom loom run for the left switchgear is good.

Couple more checks & i can wrap this & get on with finishing the engine bits & bolting it altogether now.

Been a long while since I added to this & to be honest other things have been priority so sat in the back of the garage.

Dragged it out to the front so I can get back to it

Straight back into some more loom bits, wiring up the gen2 coil so will replace the 4 individual coils on the gen1 system.
Replaced the front rocker cover & gasket.
Fitted a set of CER TB's
Concentrating now on finishing the last of runs/looms then torquing everything up then start with getting rads, exhaust etc fitted.
