Hi Guys,

Noob on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just acquired an 01 that I'm going to turn into a Race bike. Been racing Supertwin but its time to get on a bigger bike.

Its a crash damaged bike I got for a song.

First issue. Oil tank is fooked due to crash. Leaks like a siv.

Online to standard tank is way more expensive than the stainless one from the R. Any idea's why they look the same? Any decent after nmarket brands?

Has anyone attempted a repair job?

Cheers

Hey thanks Redratbike.

I'll need to pick your brains about exhusts and link pipes.
There are a sh*t ton of threads on exhausts. I've done a lot of reading.

What I've got from that is the engine hates short pipes.

And

You are the man to speak to for the collector mod.

I was thinking a 2 into 2 system as I'm chasing HP for the track. Either custom or Smalt moto does one.
Does this type of system eliminate the need for the collector mod and fix that dip in the graph?

Yes short cans lose power and torque , you want at least a  60mm linkpipe with a 450-500mm length can and a modded collector

if you do Facebook there is an Australian Rsv page for spares so may be worth looking that up.

If you have the bucks for a dual system then they are out there either new with smaltmoto think they are the only ones left making new or second hand appears every now and then railing that’s it’s custom build

Both options will give a nice big hike in the midrange even better with an airbox and a decent eprom/pc3 etc.

It depends on your budget the modded collector is probably a 1/3 -1/4 of the cost of a 2nd hand system if you can find one and a he’ll of a lot less than a custom build or new Smaltmoto  leaving more money to spend on other goodies

Yep I'm on that facebook page.

I'll slowly be adding parts. Might start with the modded collector pipe. Can you do Titanium Redratbike? How do I get one of them?

I'm looking at Eproms from Griff, Carbon airtray from Jolly and I'm going to convert to 57s and have smaltmoto bore them out to 60mm. They do an exchange service I think.

Should give a nice little performance boost to get me started.

OK next question guys.

So I know the super duper wheels are the Oz Racing wheels.

But I've never heard of Brembo wheels.

Are these standard wheels or aftermarket? What are they made from? How do they compare weight wise?

Also I was going to upload some photos but apparently I have to be allowed to do that by the admins. How does this work?

Brembo wheels are the stock items. They are considerably heavier. I've had both and the difference between the two is definitely noticeable especially side to side turning and for me the braking power was much stronger.

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

as boys said OZ wheels but having no used both Ohlins and Showa I really don't think there is much in it for racing and certainly not worth buying Ohlins now. Can rebuild the Showa with someone like MCT and they used Ohlins internals in the OE Showa shock for example.
On a std engine I'd say 60mm throttle bodies a bit too big on a gen1 unless it's big bored with gen2 heads etc. 57's be more than enough.
For racing uk tracks drop the gearing as you will struggle to do more than 155-160 on the straights. Use the punch and handling for your progress.
Twin systems are epic but the modded collector with a decent Akrapovic or arrow with chip the best bet. Also pciii plus a quickshifter in race shift

I use the standard wheels on my wet bike, with decent tyres the extra
weight will give you some more dig in to the surface.
Good luck with yer project .. hope the bank manager is friendly
cause this lot on here have lots of ways to make you poor Tongue
If you find us in a hedge check the bike first please .. I`m free on the NHS...

In reality, the benefit of lightweight wheels is even greater in the wet than in the dry for exactly the same reason, which is that the wheel can be made to track(!) the surface better and quicker as the reduced weight offers less resistance to what the suspension is trying to achieve. The correct suspension adjustments to suit the conditions is where your performance will come from.

Ok guys, finally managed to sort out some pictures.

So this is the doner bike that has begun its journey from repairable write off to race bike.

I started by stripping back all of the road gear.
The first series of upgrades is aimed at simply getting the old girl on track and get a base to build on.

So I've got a race front fairing stay coming from motoforza
rearsets from danmoto, (yes they are cheap but the expensive ones break just like the cheap ones)
quickshifter from Healtech
Race fairings from racecandy

Crash damage to the tank is cosmetic so for now I'm leaving it.
Crash damage to the cooling system. So I'm replacing the hoses with JS Performance silcne hoses and stainless claims.
Currently sourcing a stainless oil tank to switch out while I'm at it purely for weight saving measures.

Then it wil be off to the dyno for a base figure before I start the more performance orientated mods.

good start

What are the class rules on performance mods ?

I’d go eprom ,modded collector ,racecan, airbox with dual stacks ...you could gasflow the throttlebodies as I have seen recently.

REDRAT:

Class rules are a bit restrictive unfortunately,

Eprom coming from Griff

I'm going to get a custom exhaust done with each cylinder having its own pipe and race can. I'll then tune each cylinder separately

I'm going to give Jolly Giants carbon air tray a go too

Eventually I'll rebuild the engine with a big bore kit.

Unfortunately head work is limited and I'll have to read up on throttlebody mods because i'm unsure.

I'm interested in what you learned from gasflowing your tb's though. Whats the story?

OK Gents,

I need to pick your collective brains.

I'm currently in negotiation to buy a Gen 1 Ohlin's shock and Oz forged wheels.

I have a std model 2001.

Will these items bolt straight on?

I vaguely remember something about the wheels needing a spacer?

How bought the shock?

Appreciate your help.

Cheers

if the wheels are gen 1 they fit straight on if gen 2 you need spacers you can get them from the shop above

Are both items are gen one axial brakes or Radial brakes? Either if a pair will fit a gen1. If the forks are gen 1 axial and the wheels gen2 Radial then so you will need to machine the front wheel or the calipers to fit.

Ref the oil tank as stainless ones are getting rare and pricey. Instead get a lightweight battery as the weight saving on that alone is pretty drastic. A stainless tank over the pressed steel one can't be masses apart if sourcing one is an issue.

Jolly's Carbon air box again is a quality saving over the standard airbox.
Good choice
