Is this just an occupational hazard with Milles or is the rear locking up under hi rev engine braking an actual problem?

The clutch has an anti lock system to prevent wheel locking up.
Either it has failed, ie the system works on vacuum from the inlet of the engine ie you close the throttle and the clutch releases or in your case locks.

I take it being in the rain has nothing to do with it, because it is the first time its happened and first time I was in the rain.

If you blip the throttle on down changes it stops the slipper clutch from working.

Yes you can get quickshifters. Mine only works on upshifts and I suspect most will on an RSV.

The slipper is not really a slipper in the normal sense, it's a crude vacuum system with limited functionality even if everything is working fine. Check the vac hoses and one way valve but don't be surprised if you expose it's weaknesses still if your really on it.

I've never thought it works particularly well ok on the road but pretty useless on track which is why those who can afford it upgrade to a sigma slipper or similar. As far as the QS goes I've been put off getting one due to potential gearbox damage. I know many have them without issue but im dubious and I dont consider using the clutch to shift a problem,  it's how we've always done it so dont fix what aint broken. Just my opinion
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

LOL

My sentiments exactly, never understood why people need a quickshifter on a torquey engine like ours.

I except I'm slow as fook but I've never felt the need to save micro seconds on a shift while on track, same as a slipper clutch really.  I'm sure it's a nice thing to have but I can't remember the last time I locked a wheel under heavy braking while downshifting,I think it was on the Sv1000s anyway as that had even more engine drag than the Rotax.

I always feather the clutch anyway,it's not as if that hand is doing anything else is it? you don't have to indicate on track Wink

Having said that I quite often upshift sans clutch and even down sometimes although rarely on track as downshifts require a degree of coordination to be seamless and I usually have something else more important looming then.

Completely agree. Buy a 'twist and go' I say if you don't want to (Or simply can't) co-ordinate your limbs. We all moan about the dumbing down of riding and driving in motorsport and then chase after the gadgets that do just that. If you are racing and the stuff is allowed then inveitably to be competitive you probably need to follow but otherwise simply not needed. After all is that not part of the art of riding in the same way as I wouldn't want an autobox on a car (Unless I lived in London mind which I never would!)

Of course talking about 'twist and go' we will all end up with them when the world completes it's shift to electric

I agree to a point as I never use my quick shifter at all but I can understand why some people do even on the road.

At the end of the day there is no need for a loud exhaust, open airbox or carbon etc etc on the road or even a trackday. The few bhp difference makes fark all real world difference to your ride other than your personal enjoyment and that is what I guess a quick shifter does for some.

Personally I find the quickshifter awesome both on road and track. I've an STM slipper clutch on the race bike and it's is equally impressive. Overkill for the road yes but not when it comes to track days or racing. Being full throttle in a bend and needing to shift up or down when rapidly approaching a bend then you can with minimal unsettling of the bike. Also put it in raceshift and you will wonder why you ever use road shift again.

Of course everyone is different but if you want to have one or either do it and you won't regret it.

You can blip no problem but your locking the rear wheel? You seem to have a problem!

Wiggins knows as he has raced 1 of these, they are lethal without a slipper and very slow without a quickshift, they are fast bikes with the right upgrades, my race bike has the lot but my road bike only has a qs and not a slipper and it has nearly killed me many times on down shifts. I don't blip though!

quick shifter spoils the bike I would say I ride a blade on track and all that stuff spoils the fun auto blipper traction control anti wheelie  I mean what next auto

Spoke with Griff ref back wheel lock up and over revving and bent valves he said it happens if you are not careful. My Honda sp1 was bad for the rear wheel hopping but in General all v twins are horrible in the wet because of torque braking and power delivery especially on roundabouts . Live with it and get over the fear.

mixdrive1 is no slouch at Cadwell that's for sure!

We all take what we want from riding road or race or track days but for me they are fantastic additions
