Yep, if a bike produced by the biggest, most resourced bike brand in the world and prepped by one of the best race teams can do that, who really wants all this electronic stuff on their bike? |

I bet the Norton won't "auto blip" the throttle mid corner

That’s very disingenuous, Norton don’t have the budget of the big players so a 6th place at the TT has got to be considered a success. As for build quality small scale production would suggest improved attention to detail and therefore quality but this never seems to be the case and regrettably often translates into poor and inconstant quality, not ideal on a £20K plus motorcycle but I think the bikes will sell out regardless and the would be owners won’t care about the odd glitch. Ultimately the bikes will have to be on a par with the competition in order to ensure a long term future, but Ducati seem to be doing all right and the build quality of some of their new bikes is truly shocking, a friend of mine as a Diavel (£16K) and it as had multiple issues, the rear seat cover blow off on the motorway, fork preload adjusters seized, engine coatings flaking off, fasteners rusting, exhaust valve falling off, fuel gauge as failed 3 times the list goes on, my mate as spoken to other owners who all have similar stories and shows that even the big hitters can get it wrong. |

"Norton have done incredibly well" Norton have only made about 1000 bikes in 40 years, the ones they have supplied are very poor quality (Google it). If you want a £20000 plus bike that doesn't work, buy a Norton. Did you see the video of the time Norton failed to even start the TT ? The chancer who owns norton......enough said. Funded by another grant by the uk government ....again. McFatty should retire before he gets dead! Using the untried norton is foolish beyond foolish. (obviously the drugs that keep him thin are expensive) |

Dicing with death on the TT?....they all are!
John has always done it and I hope he knows when to stop, but I also feel that he knows that he's no crazy spring chicken looking at becoming the King. Norton have done incredibly well achieving what they have compared to the other competition and they'll certainly do a lot more with John in there team . Just my pennies worth 👍 |

Josh Brookes took the Norton to 8th and 6th last year, not bad for an "badly engineered" bike

Who knows - they might let him keep one, he's already got a few ££££ tasty machines at his gaff. Id let him ride the TT on my Gen 1 if he asked me, I'd even let him start my GSXR and take me dog for a walk. He is a thoroughly nice bloke, and if the choice was "do we have him at the TT etc only if hes got a chance of winning", or "do we feel lucky that hes going to grace the event as an ambassador / ride around the circuit on a Norton", what would it matter, my answer would be I don't care as long as he's taking part.
He's no mug who would compete on a dog, HRC now know that. It will do Norton no damage at all having him represent them. If he gets it on or near a podium then I'd shake his hand.

Spoonz & budd, I think both of you are spot on. John gets away from the nightmare Honda without having to quit racing. He gets a nice pay day and it's a great promotional story for Norton as well as getting all his technical knowledge. I wouldn't be surprised if he has signed a long term deal to race initially and then be a consultant / development rider which would keep the money coming in after he retires from racing.

I think he still is a great racer ...the results he got on a machine that was out of date years ago show that
Are there better riders than him now....of course but it’s all he knows and in his blood hopefully he has grabbed a huge payday from the t**ser that runs Norton ...is it a one year only deal??? |

I think potentially it's a great move for John, a small tight knit team without the great expectations of a larger big money team. He will have lots of eyes on him for sure but very little pressure which is just what he needs. And as for 'the badly engineered Norton will kill him' very few race bikes are badly engineered these days, obviously there are exceptions to this, most notable being the 2017 Honda Fireblade which very nearly finished him last year (and prompted Guy Martin to retire) and this bike was designed and built by probably the biggest player in road racing and indeed MC racing full stop.
So for me it's a perfect match great British rider great British bike marque, plus Norton will without doubt benefit from his knowledge and experience, John gets a decent payday and remains in the public eye, seems to me its a win win. The only cloud on the horizon is if he tries to win it, despite my comments above it is fair to say the Norton isn't as well developed as some of the big players, couple this with the fact (sorry John) he's no spring chicken and isn't physically in tip top condition, trying push the young guns on the latest machines could very well end badly. So hopefully he'll go do a great job of promoting Norton and doing himself proud in the process without taking any major risks. |

Your a long time retired in the motorcycle world. Maybe it's a case of securing his long term future by keeping the money coming in for as long as poss.
Otherwise he will have to go on I'm a celebrity and eat monkey bollocks and pretend to be nice to supposedly famous people who 99% of the population have never heard of.

He WAS a great racer, he needs to hang up his leathers now, the badly engineered norton will kill him. Does he want to be another Joey Dunlop. Retire fatty before its to late. Look at his knee it still has bolts outside his leg ffs....brave man but stupid imho https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/news/john-mcguinness-norton-2018-isle-of-man-tt/ |
