Try this:
Switch the ignition on. Hold the throttle wide open. Hold the starter button down. If the starter begins to slow down then stop.

I had oil in the cam position sensor connector which sits on the left hand side behind the front pot cam cover, cleaned and sprayed it with contact cleaner and off she went.

The cold start just moves the throttle stop to raise the idle, there is no mixture control element to it so if your holding the throttle wide open it's not doing anything. If the bike catches just use it to raise the idle enough to keep the bike running. |

I wish folk would post up the final fix if there is one, it would be really helpful, the scenario above happens to a lot of Aprilia owners at some stage or another. My first experience of starting issues was just not understanding how it liked to be started. Once I had sorted that out / made a mental note, it was no longer a problem. No problems for a good few months apart from an occasionall "stall" at lights or pulling away which I partly blamed on operator - error. Then after a period of no use (4 weeks) in the garage, another no-start issue appeared (fired up from cold / cut out after a few secs / retry / fired up / cut out.)
Pump priming erratic. Cause: Pin in white in-line 3-pin connector on pump harness had corrosion and had become shortened compared to the other 2. Bypassed plug, pump primes on demand. Bought second hand pump c/w harness and transferred it. Bike started immediately, also priming noise is noticeably "better" - ie very similar to my other 2 GSXR. So probably a fix until something else goes "Ape".
