That isn't the imperial system.....that's the American version.....real Imperial had Whitworth, British Standard Fine, Brass, BA & all sorts of odd thread forms. Might nip out into the garage & thumb through my 1974 Zeus book now!

It's a pita...I look at a metric fastener and can tell straight away what spanner or socket I'll need.
I've worked on aircraft that have Imperial fasteners, including the present type I've worked for 4 years, and I still have to grab a bunch of spanners or visit the tool store twice to get the right size socket! I hate Imperial.

It's not imperial vs metric that's the problem it's fractions!!!
it's easy to work with figures in the form 12.345 or 6.789 you can easily add subtract multiply divide etc, The numbers don't care if they are mm, Metres, inches, yards or elephants. When dimensions are expressed as fractions it is a nightmare, 6 13/32 + 1 3/16 x 7 17/64 needs a lot of pen and paper work before even switching on the calculator. BTW BA is a metric thread system based on a 47.5 deg thread angle 0BA being 6mm dia and 1mm pitch

imperial system is so annoying !! but our system of measurements is totally messed up
look at various trades and how they measure their specific materials, timber for joiners and builders, steel for fabricators in various methods mm, inches and SWG can be head scratching !! plumbers for copper pipes but one more point how tall are you and how much you you weigh most people will answer this in imperial measurements, but we measure distance in m, cm or mm (metric) but drive in mph (imperial) and put fuel in our bikes in litres (metric) aaaaaargh !!!!

Who ever makes sheets of plywood should be shot, all studwork in walls or joists and trusses in roofs are set at metric centres. Plasterboards are metric, flooring sheets are metric, everything is metric but plywood manufacturers still insist on making them 4ft x 8ft.
