Hi all,

New to the forum and my first post, I have a gen 1 Mille which ive owned for a couple of years now. Its still got the standard air box on it, ive seen this come up on ebay. Is it worth the money is my question?

My bike currently has a Pipeworx pipe on it, but I'm looking for a 2-1-2 system if anyone knows of one for sale....

Hi Craig,
Welcome to the best place you can find for help with all things Aprilia.

There are two types of airbox mod. One is the hooked type as you see there and also the EVO style where the underside of the tank acts as the top of the airbox by sealing the tank to the airbox lower with a rubber seal.

Both have their merits and also their supporters and detractors. I like the EVO myself as you keep the ram effect and I prefer not to have the heat soak into the induction air that comes with the type shown in the ad. Others are concerned whether the you get a proper seal with the EVO type but if done properly they are usually fine. I've run one for thousands of miles and my airbox/throttle bodies are immaculate.

I'm sure others will jump in with other thoughts.

Yep, that's it or some people modify their standard airbox to do the same thing which is what I did like this one below:

And if you use the EVO style try to find one of the early air boots which are larger and more free flowing. If you are lucky, your bike might even already have one. See below for comparison of the early and late versions:

I make and sell a better version of the carbon one you found.
On my version there is no big breather filter on the top to spew oil all over your air tray as I developed a new in built one.
Also mine seal well enough as I modify the air filter to fit properly.
I am currently doing mine new for a few quid more than the one you found.

There is no problem with 'Heat soak' as the carbon is more heat resistant than the standard plastic one and once you are above 3mph the air flow is much greater and cools it all down anyway.

Just taken delivery of my Hooked type airbox and big boot kit but the filter is a bit crappy plus there is no breather pipe and filter.
Anyone point me in the direction of where i can get them?
Thanks in advance.

Probably most motor factors have the filter. The breather pipe that went to the standard airbox is the same one you use. Just goes through the airplate (tightish fit), and the filter sits on top, holding it in place. Pic below. All you need is a small filter, whose inlet fits in the pipe, so measure the id of the pipe

Be probably worth having a word with Griff, I think he may know the sizes. He used to stock the air filter as well.

Jolly has a point about the oil. If you run the oil 1 inch above the minimum mark (as per Aprilia performance advice) it's minimal. I'm going to put a T-piece in the breather pipe's lowest point, down to a small catch tank though, you will always get a bit of mist.

Question everything.

Just had a closer look and whipped the filter off and it's a lot better than i first thought so should be ok with a clean and oil.Just what to do with the breather now,get a small filter when i find out the pipe diameter i suppose and drill the plate to fit.

Mine is a Hooked airkit. Already had the hole for the breather pipe. If yours does not have the hole there are other options, such as a smallish catch tank lower down with a breathable lid.

Question everything.

I've replaced my breather pipe for a smaller bore pipe and taken it down to a catch bottle in the belly pan. The bottle is about 2" high and 1" in diameter with a few 2mm holes in the top to allow it to breathe.
I've only ever emptied it once to clean it and it had maybe a couple of mm of oil in the bottom.

People say I don't know Jack Sh1t; but I do, he lives next door.
