Hi Guy's
some help please, my 2002 Mille is off the road for 3 months as winter here. Went to start and run it as I do every now and then, would not start and battery went dead despite a trickle charger, battery the problem so changed it for a new one. The battery rep who services our car sales yard recommended a Motobatt MBTX12U as more umph for less $, so poped it in. Fires splutters and dies, fuel starvation I thought so filled and tried again, same problem, fires farts and stops. I am now thinking aie flow or fuel pump. Couple of questions, is the Motobatt ok? Am I missing an obvious issue? My Son who knows his stuff tells me the Motobatt is terrible and could be the problem but anything I have read is mixed on the subject so confused. I dont think its the battery however. Cheers Mark |

If you suspect your battery? why not jumper it to your car battery that should give it enough umph! if it works ok its the battery if it doesn't then you need to look elsewhere, good luck!

Yep tried with n without, fiddlers with the rev settings etc and no go. I am thinking fuel pump as I can't get any sound from it so tomorrow check fuses again, unsure where fuel pump fuse is though?

Is the fuel pump priming correctly, if it is my experience of this scenario ended up being wet plugs. Mine is a "If you dont get me fired up first time leave me alone to sulk then come back after youve had a cup of tea and if youre lucky I may start, or I may be a conplete b**stard and force you to take out that GSXR1000 over there in the corner who starts everytime, whatever battery or time of day / night it is"
Generally it starts first time though if I shout "start ya b***stard" before pressing the button. |

Have u been in my garage? That my bike! Curse st it and it behaves. 😂
Mine usually starts first time every time, I'm about to take the air box apart b off then the plugs get checked I think. Always garaged and in a trickle, treated like a very sexy gf. 😳 |

Ok, so when you turn the ignition on, you should hear the pump prime, then after a few seconds it will stop.
If not, check the fuses under your seat. Also check it’s not in gear ( we’ve all done it! Don’t be embarrassed) If it primes, but still won’t fire: does it now turn over when you press the start button? And if it does, is it a good strong start or laboured turnover? If it’s laboured, it may be the battery or the solenoid, To test the solenoid, get a heavy gauge screwdriver, ignition on, and hold it hard against the two bolts on the solenoid. This should turn over quickly and hopefully start the bike. If it’s slow, it could be your battery or starting circuit. As said, get a set of jump leads and jump start it from a car ( this will provide more current than your Motobatt can and more torque at the starter motor). After all this, and it still doesn’t want to know, then check you’ve plenty of fresh fuel, pull the plugs and clean, and check your leads arent getting old and corroded. Good luck ! |
