    Posted: 11 Sep 2016 at 21:39
Well, after months of saving, watching ebay like a hawk, and reading up loads on these machines, I've finally got one! Big smile

I've said hello on the FB group but I've been a lurker here for a while too.

2009 Tuono Factory black dream.

My other bike is a little Honda CB400 superfour that I use for commuting, so coming from a 400cc IL4 that revs to 14k rpm and makes zero power under 7k, to a 1000cc v-twin which pulls like a train from 4000rpm is quite a change LOL

It's already running 15/42 gearing, I'll be doing some decent motorway miles down to europe so I may go for a 40 rear sprocket as a bit of a compromise, but I'll wait until the rear is done, it's only a few hundred miles old.

Had a decent run out today, about 160 miles down to Loomies. Filled up for the first time, 13 litres for 110 miles which is about what I was expecting, 140-ish to a tank - I barely had the throttle open 30%, just getting used to it, plenty of motorway sitting at 80mph too in that tank.

The suspension felt a little hard on the ride, I could feel every single dimple on the road, and big bumps nearly had me out the seat, so I've put the comp and rebound F&R back to standard settings, will need a helper to sort the preload and static sag, but I can then go from there. Also need to drop the forks a little only one ring showing at the moment, 3 is the normal for road use I believe. It did feel a little vague going round a nice smooth roundabout, like the front wanted to go wide once it was leant over a bit.

Any tips/tricks welcome - it's a fantastic bike!!

Hi iv'e got factory R for road use have F-R compression backed out to 20 clicks, dropping front down couple of rings will sharpen steering. For motorway gearing 16 F 42R is good on mine.

Didn't go to loomies today would of had a nose around T nice ride.

Cheers, I'll have a play with the suspension, standard is 12 clicks so 20 should be a fair bit softer.

Almost forgot, I thought it had a miracle working rear brake - there's a nice firm pedal, but it does bugger all!! LOL Just enough to force to hold the bike when sat at the lights but no stopping power. At least I can use it to let drivers behind me know I'm slowing down due engine braking, never known so much on a bike!!

That's a really nice bike pal.
Setting the sag and dropping the forks does make quite a difference.
Just remember the weight bias is on the back by the very nature of you being sat up.
Did mine last night and even pushing the bike is noticably different.

Thanks all, rode the bike to work on Thursday after setting the comp to 18 clicks front and rear, felt loads better. Just adjusted the forks in the clamps, now 3 rings showing vs the 1 ring before, so I'll see how that feels.

I'm in Maidstone, only had my licence 2 years in a months time so an RSV was out for insurance costs, and comfort reasons! This Tuono will be taking me down to the Alps next year, and all over Europe Smile

No, this one was up in Belfast! It's the cleanest black dream I'd seen, and the price was very decent too.

I had a look at a red lion factory in Fast Lane a few months ago, walked out pretty quick as it didn't have the forged wheels and had marks/damage everywhere and they still wanted over £5k for it!!

I'll be looking to keep up the service history, if there's a Kent service day next year I'll be n for that! It's not long had the 12k mile service so all good for another year.

Ah ha, you'll be the Paul that took my T for a test ride not so long ago.

Lovely looking bike mate, obviously you held out for a factory, looks well worth the wait. Welcome & enjoy clocking up the miles.

Ha, yes that's me! I knew I'd regret not holding out for a factory, your bike confirmed that a Tuono was 100% the bike for me! Smile

I wish! That's the centre of a little village off a great little road near me, in Chillham.

Commuted to work on it today again, still getting used to the power as my day to day commuting bike is a CB400 with 50bhp and no torque!

If there's a AP service day next summer/any meets I'll be in, already planning some purchases over winter (AP rearsets & rsv4/ktm master cylinder, quickshifter etc).

*sigh* Is it Spring yet?

It's been tucked away for what seems like ages now. Just finished fitting light and power to my garage so it'll be hooked up to a battery optimiser in the next few days.

I have been out a few times over the past few months, today included, weather has been pretty good, for winter, single digit temps like today require more tea/coffee stops alright though.

Alright chaps. I thought I'd drop a line as I'm in the area too. Strood to be exact. I've not had a pleasant Ape mille R owning experience thus far (see my posts😳) I'm about to swap engines for the second time having had the original RP engine rebuilt. Hopefully after the weekend I'll be able to join in the fun....

The engine from Foo is ME and my original is an RP. Plus there is a niggling misfire I can't dial out. The bike in its current star is usable but not perfect. Plus I'm off to Almeria in April with it so I'd like it to be perfect.
