Can the lower Showa triple clamp be machined out to take the extra thickness of Ohlins forks or does it have to be replaced. Is the upper clamp useable as well? Anything else needed to be changed? Thanks

I'm.in the process of swapping my Showa over to Ohlins on my Gen 2 Tuono and you need the ohlins bottom yoke and top nut. I think you can have them machined out but it'll be cheaper and easier just to get hold of a second hand yoke either on here or eBay.

Ohlins are 56mm at the bottom clamp I think but they are both the same at the top clamp.

Paddedcell100 👍 , this is exactly what I did on my gen 2 tuono, got the triple clamp complete with forks( still have the top clamp in garage) the ohlins reduce in size above the lower clamp

That's it Jrenoc, I managed to get a good price and wangled the ohlins bottom yoke as part of the deal, they fo comeup.on eBay pretty regularly but all the better if you havent got to hunt one down and a lot of the time the top nut is missing. I have read that the showa yoke and the ohlins yoke are both made from the same initial casting but just machined out to the different sizes,so.its possible to get a showa one machined out bigger but it's a bit of a faff. Did you notice much difference once you had fitted the ohlins on yours fella? |

I would say I did ,however getting it setup by the ap boys made a huge difference, it also helps that you have that gold ohlins bling 😊

Ha, I think that is the real reason behind a fork upgrade if we are honest . I was all set to get my Showa forks upgraded with a k-tech piston kit but the blue and gold won me over.... It's great to make everything work better but even better if you can drool over it in the garage as well, hehe. |

I was having a look at my refurbed Ohlins earlier and was overjoyed with the new Ohlins stickers on the bottoms.... Simple things for simple minds |

Save your money up and get your showa forks uprated, ohlins look nice but seals can leak ever 1-2 years. A well set up set of showa forks will perform as good as ohlins

I was mainly getting at the benefits of a properly set up showa front end would perform as good as a ohlins front end

Bit of red rubber grease under the dust seal over winter normally gives them a fighting chance.
My forks are lasting quite well at the moment but just had new seals and cartridges installed |

Sorry Diablo, only just saw your reply.... I had the forks serviced and resprung at BG motorsport in Silverstone, they stuck the new stickers on as part of that, still charged me mind, about 3 quid I think , they do just finish the job off nicely though. |

Hello Tez. I did ask the question about the seals before I got mine done and MCT Suspension did say that it was the old ohlins seals that leaked and he used to use the suzuki ones but since they updated them he just uses ohlins now. This is my first set of ohlins forks so I will just have to see how it goes. |

I've had mine redone last year by AP as I didn't ride the bike from oct14 till may15 ( moving house ) it was sat in my in laws garage . Result seals leaked , it's the sitting that causes it .

Howdy Jrenoc, I had heard that a period of inactivity set them off, even over winter it's rare for my bike to be unused for more than two months maximum so hopefully they will be ok, fingers crossed anyway.. |
