Wow desmo gas forks, bet they would've been nice hehe, the forks I've got are really good, they are setup quite firm though, I need to back them off a bit, the bike turns in very quick, more so than the standard ohlins on the Gen1, however like most ohlins forks, these ones have crappier seals and the right side is showing signs of weeping but they're getting completely stripped over winter and having some brand new coatings applied to them which will be good Hehee!

They do look very trick on your bike, especially with the black fork legs, much better than the gold I think. I keep mulling over getting a set of ohlins for mine but it'd be a newer set of rsv4 ones if I went for an Aprilia set but the Desmosedici ones would be awesome... I'd just be sat in the garage looking at them instead of the tv
I think I'm going to just end up getting my Showa's revalved over the winter, im thinking a set of K-tech valves and springs would do the job nicely (and tide me over until the the next set of Desmo forks come up )

Yeah a lot of guys seem to go down the route of getting K-Tech internals fitted as this greatly improved the feel and adjustment, definitely something I'll be looking at too, I know where your coming from on those desmo forks and if I had them fitted to my bike, I'd just gawp at them constantly when not riding the bike Haha!

There are a lot of forks that slot straight into the Aprilia yokes and are the same length too so no modifications are needed, perfect example of this are the Ohlins FG 336 Moto 2 gas forks, they are 730mm long and 51mm through the top yoke and 56mm through the bottom yoke Hehe!

I see the 2016 ZX10R and GSXR1000 are getting gas forks. Showa I think. Matter of time before they become stock fit on Aprilia and Ducati I'd imagine. Then let the ebay hunt begin.

Yeah those bits that we'd once considered race bike only items are now becoming more and more standard fare aren't they, it was only a few years ago that the likes of titanium valves and con rods were the preserve of race/exotic bikes, now they're standard fitment on some bikes!

God, don't start me off on the Moto2 gas charged ohlins.... I would have to move into the garage permanently if I got some of them
The new Showa's on the Gsxr & Zx10r are very trick aren't they, they may even take over from Ohlins as the fork upgrade of choice for your average bike modder...it's certainly a great time for picking up trick parts, although not for the health of your bank balance

Upgrade of choice for the moment at least. I'd be very surprised if the next rejig of the RSV4RF and Pantiegale R don't have Öhlins version. Like most people, I've never had a go on a bike with gas forks. Curious if they make much difference. Worth it on looks alone though. Ha ha. Such a tart.

It would be nice if Ohlins do start bringing them out soon, they do just look the dogs with those canisters on the bottom and you are cock on MM, it's only bling because I'm sure it's not going to shave tenths off of my trip to Onyerbike on a Sunday afternoon but I do love a bit of suspension porn...

Haha, yehhhhhh.... There's a second hand set for about £4500 isn't there? I did have a little letch at them a while back, I would get lynched if the postie turned up with them ...
There was a nice looking set of WP superbike forks on there a couple of weeks ago as well, off of somebodys race bike, can't remember who, they were around £1500 I think, did look very smart.

All very nice to look at of course, but don't you think it's like putting stockings and a susi belt on an decrepit oap? Confused

To each their own I guess, some people probably like that kind of thing Dead

What does the age of a bike have anything to do with how much you spend on it ?

Mmm,law of diminishing returns perhaps.

I've never seen the point ,unless you're racing in a class with restrictions why try to turn an apple into a pear?

I'd rather go and get a pear but that's just the way I look at it.

It was up for comment  Wink

Each to their own chap, I love modding my bike over the years and making it into a one off, I'd much rather do that that just keep buying the latest and greatest every couple of years and just have the same as everybody else, plus if you are a bit canny at playing the fleabay game you can pick up most of the bits at a pretty reasonable price and always flog them on again if you so wish..realistically I'm never going to buy a £4500 set of forks, unless I win the lotto, but it doesn't stop them going on the wishlist

Very true, each to their own, I would NEVER be able to use any of those expensive forks or brakes to their FULL potential.....

HOWEVER it wouldn't stop me from putting them on the bike if I had the chance lol

Tbh Nicky,I wonder if anyone on this forum could use them without a comprehensive downgrade internally.

I suspect they were designed for full on racing piloted by the aliens, and so probably totally unsuited to any sort of bimbleing road use.

nice to dream though   I suppose.

Fair do's to anyone who wants to fit £4500 worth of forks, perhaps ones priorities change as we get older.

Well, the tear down is underway, some of the new race kit parts have arrived but others haven't, some won't work unless the others are here and vice versa. . .

Only got the fairings off and a few other bits since the pic was taken but I'am well chuffed with the new work bench Hehee!

Yep can't beat a good work bench, had mine a few years now and i will never be without one now. I hate to think how many hours i have spent kneeling on my garage floor over the years working on bikes especially before i had paddock stands as well.

Ken who owned the bike before me had them custom made for him by a local company, they have a good amount of adjustment

I've always liked that bike Nicky. I was nearly tempted myself when Ken put her up for sale. Good to see she's still a pampered pet.
