They are easy to check if you take it off and can blow through it both ways it is knackered, on my gen one a pipe runs from the throttle body on the right hand side down to the clutch housing on the right. In the pipe by the frame you will see a small plastic canister just pull it out and check. The slipper clutch works off this pipe, on a closed throttle vacuum is created which works a diaphram in the clutch housing unloading the plates.

The standard part is just a rubber duckbill ...cheap and cheerful until Aprilia stamp their name on it !!
Frankie was fitted with one of these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/271519110751?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0
